Why does bamboo blossom and die?

Why does bamboo blossom and die? The main reason is that the nutrients of the whole bamboo are exhausted after one flowering. Without the support of nutrients, flowering bamboo will die.

Flowering plants in nature can be roughly divided into two types, one is to bloom only once in a lifetime; The other one is more common, which blooms every year and goes back and forth, such as apples, peonies and osmanthus flowers.

The life of the former is divided into vegetative growth and reproductive growth. In the early stage, vegetative growth: spreading branches, spreading leaves and accumulating nutrients; After a period of time, the flowers began to bloom and multiply, and died after the nutrition was exhausted.

The biennial plants we usually see, such as radish, cabbage and rape, are all like this. East Brown, which produces sago, as well as plants such as agave and bamboo, will take years and decades to preserve nutrition, once it is produced, it will die. (Note: Not all bamboos will die after flowering. Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys pubescens and Phyllostachys pubescens will still survive. )?

Prevention methods of bamboo flowering

1 First of all, we should know the conditions of bamboo flowering.

Bamboo flowering is a physiological phenomenon of plants. Different from other plants, the flowering and fruiting of bamboo are generally determined by two factors. First, internal factors, bamboo whip must reach a certain individual mature age; Second, external factors, such as special climatic conditions, long-term drought, soil hardening in bamboo forest, lack of soil nutrients, nutrient imbalance, weeds in bamboo garden and so on.

When bamboo reaches a certain age, when it encounters serious water shortage and malnutrition, photosynthesis will be weakened, nitrogen metabolism will be reduced, sugar concentration in the plant will be relatively increased, and nitrogen content will be relatively reduced, resulting in an increase in the ratio of carbon to nitrogen, which is conducive to the formation and flowering of flower buds. Therefore, bad growth environment can promote bamboo flowering, and only when both internal and external conditions are met can bamboo blossom and bear fruit.

2. Make clear the period and precursor of flowering.

Bamboo can bloom all year round, but it varies with different bamboo species. Generally, the flowering period is from April to May when the leaves are changed.

Before flowering, some abnormal phenomena often appear in bamboo plants or bamboo clumps, such as weakened growth, obviously reduced bamboo shoots, little or no bamboo shoots, withered bamboo leaves or all fallen off, short and deformed leaves on branchlets, short and yellow plants, and difficult germination of branches and leaves, which are all signs of bamboo flowering.

3. Specific prevention of bamboo flowering.

Strengthening tending management, taking measures such as loosening soil, fertilizing, covering soil and watering to improve water and fertilizer conditions, preventing and controlling pests and diseases, creating a suitable growth environment for bamboo, promoting vegetative growth and constantly producing bamboo shoots may delay the aging and maturity of bamboo forests or bamboo clumps and inhibit flowering and fruiting.

Constantly dig out bamboo piles and older bamboo whips, cut off older bamboo plants in time, and always keep the bamboo plants young. When individual bamboo plants bloom in the bamboo forest, turn out the flowering bamboo plants in time, turn out the old whip, thoroughly loosen the soil, and apply urea 10 kg per mu, which can delay and inhibit flowering.

Cut off all the flowering bamboo plants, dig out the old bamboo whip, and loosen the soil, cover the grass and ridge the bamboo forest land. Nitrogen fertilizer is added to promote the vegetative growth of bamboo, so that the flowering bamboo forest is gradually renewed and rejuvenated.
