The Origin of Wanmulin in Jian 'ou City, Northern Fujian Province

This word originated from Jianning Mansion Records compiled during Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty. According to government records, Wanmulin was called Dafu Mountain hundreds of years ago, with low terrain and good feng shui. In the Yuan Dynasty, the owner of Dafu Mountain was Daqing Yang. One year when there was a famine, Daqing Yang wanted to take out the food stored at home to help the victims, but he didn't want to be named. So he told the victim that whoever planted a tree on my mountain would be given a bucket of rice. The trees on the mountain were planted one by one. The official history records say: "With the height of the mountain, there is wood." After several years, the wood grows luxuriantly and looks like a forest. "In a few years, wood will become useful. In his later years, Daqing Yang often warned future generations that the trees on Doctor Mountain could not be sold, but could only be used in several situations, such as building temples, schools, building boats and bridges, building houses for the elderly and helping poor families without houses and coffins. The villagers praised his spirit and gave the mountain another name, called "Wanmu Mountain". Ruan Derou, the magistrate of Jianning in Ming Dynasty, learned that Yang Daqing was "involved in the history of books, knew the meaning of ancient and modern times, and was charitable", and specially asked him to be a teacher for his children. Later, Ruan Derou saw that Daqing Yang was very talented and asked him to be an official many times, but Daqing Yang resolutely refused. Ruan Derou also specially drew a picture of the forest and recorded Yang Daqing's achievements in planting trees for the people. After Yang Daqing's death, his grandson Yang Rong became an official in the Ming Dynasty and served as Minister of Industry. Later, a friend of Yang Rong wrote an article "Ten Thousand Mu Mountain", which recorded Yang Daqing's deeds in words and kept it in the official history. After more than 600 years of natural evolution, the existing wanmu forest has become a typical subtropical forest. In the mountains, ancient trees are towering, giant vines crisscross, and rare tree species such as Cinnamomum camphora and camellia are rare in China. In recent years, through scientific investigation, there are 1234 species of plants in the forest, accounting for almost half of the plant species in Fujian Province, so it has the reputation of "subtropical plant museum". The newly-built Wanmulin Scientific Research Institute and Scientific Research Building have collected more than 20,000 specimens of various plants, more than 4,000 specimens of insects, more than 60 specimens of birds and animals, and more than 0/00 specimens of snakes and wild raccoons. Wanmulin is now listed as one of the scenic spots in Wuyishan tourist area.
