The root cause of hearing loss, whether it is viral cold, noise, sudden vasospasm caused by various reasons, or senile vascular elasticity weakening and blood viscosity, affects the microcirculation of cochlea, eventually leading to ischemia and hypoxia and damaging auditory nerve cells.
Nerve cells are non-renewable after injury, so there is a very important window period for deafness treatment. According to modern medicine, it is basically within 48 hours, and it only takes about 7 days. In the meantime, if you can treat the cause in time and restore some functions before the cells completely die, then your hearing will not decline too much.
Generally speaking, hearing loss is in the range of 20-30 decibels, and the impact on daily life is not particularly obvious. Even some people's hearing has dropped by 20 decibels, but they can't feel it. However, if the window period of deafness treatment is exceeded, then no matter what treatment method is in vain, the effect will not be particularly good.
Then, if acupuncture is used for treatment, what thoughts and methods did the ancients leave behind, and how did they know about deafness?
Let's first learn about the three meridians directly related to the ear.
The first meridian is called the hand shaoyang sanjiao meridian. Before it was named Shoushaoyang, this meridian was called "ear pulse" by the ancients, which was specifically related to the ear. The other two meridians, one is called the Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, and the other is called the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. There is a similarity between the three meridians, that is, "from behind the ear, into the ear, out of the ear." In other words, all three meridians enter the ear from behind the ear and leave the ear from before. Therefore, the ear is called zong pulse, and zong is the general meaning, that is, the pulse that gathers and summarizes in the ear.
These three meridians all converge in the ear, but the causes of the problems in the ear represented by the three meridians are different.
Let's talk about the first meridian, the hand shaoyang sanjiao meridian. This meridian is described in the original text of its symptoms. "If you move, you will get sick and become deaf." This kind of viral cold, the window period of treatment must be well grasped, and the earlier the treatment, the more obvious the effect. Timely intervention and control, whether it is antiviral therapy, hormone therapy or traditional Chinese medicine to clear away heat and detoxify, have good results.
Hand Shaoyang Meridian is the only one in 12 meridians that mentions deafness in symptoms, and it is most suitable for treating this kind of viral, exogenous and acute paroxysmal deafness. As long as we grasp the effective window of treatment, the effect of timely treatment is good, which is completely in line with our understanding of modern medicine.
The second meridian is the hand-sun small intestine meridian. The meridian route of the small intestine meridian of the hand sun is "out of the shoulder, around the shoulder and across the shoulder" in the scapula area, which looks like the shape of the last heart fluctuation on ECG, fluctuating up and down in our scapula. In other words, this meridian connects the related muscle groups of the whole neck, shoulders and back of the human body. This meridian was called "shoulder pulse" earlier, which solved the problems of our neck, shoulders and scapula. There is a particularly important muscle called levator scapulae on the small intestine meridian of the hand sun, one end of which is attached to the inner upper edge of our scapula, and the other end ends at the transverse process of our cervical vertebra 1-4. Therefore, when muscle contracture occurs in our scapula area, it will involve some small muscle groups under our occipital bone, resulting in mechanical imbalance between them.
I specially introduced the acupoints for sleeping and treating dizziness. The principle of action of these acupoints is to adjust the disorder of occipital-atlantoaxial joint.
When the occipitoatlantoaxial joint is abnormal, the main arteries supplying blood to the eyes and ears will be easily stimulated, which will easily lead to acute vasospasm or persistent vascular ischemia in the ears. This is an important cause of deafness, which we can call cervicogenic deafness. When this happens, whether it is acute or chronic, if the symptoms of neck and shoulder discomfort occur at the same time, and this situation is still long-term, there are bad posture habits, dizziness, headache and other symptoms, you may wish to consider using the relevant acupoints of the hands, the sun and the small intestine meridians to adjust the muscle relationship between the neck and shoulder. The effect of this method may be more effective than simply using conventional methods to treat deafness, especially for some people who use drugs or have no obvious effect with conventional methods. The third meridian is the gallbladder meridian of foot shaoyang. This meridian is very important for the movement of qi in human body. Shaoyang is the cardinal and the pivot, which is a key meridian for regulating human qi. What will happen if this meridian is abnormal and causes deafness? We often call it "sudden deafness", which means sudden deafness. It is directly related to mood, stress and fatigue, and it is often these reasons that lead to sudden distortion and spasm of blood vessels. This kind of deafness is often caused when you are too nervous, tired or emotional.
Three meridians correspond to three pathogenic types:
The first is deafness caused by external factors. This is well known and effective in modern medicine. You don't have to find acupuncture to treat it, but our acupuncture and Chinese medicine have a certain effect. If you have such deafness, it is suggested that in addition to routine treatment, you can also use acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine and other auxiliary treatments in time, such as some traditional Chinese medicines for clearing away heat and toxic materials, and the method of pricking blood along the distal end of meridians. At this time, we choose the distal end of the shaoyang meridian of the hand, the corner of the nameless nail root, the Guanchong point near the ulnar side of the little finger, and the auricular point on our ear, where the auricle is vertically folded in half, at the highest point of the auricular tip. The earlier the acute stage, the better the effect will be. If this happens, besides going to the hospital to see a doctor, pricking the acupuncture points on the hands and ears in time can also relieve the symptoms quickly.
The second type is often overlooked by us, that is, cervical deafness.
The third is the sudden vasospasm caused by our over-emotion, overwork and mental stress. By adjusting the way of qi movement, vasospasm can be relieved, and the symptoms will be relieved soon.
The latter two meridians are often neglected in the treatment of cervical deafness and emotional deafness. If there are similar symptoms, it is recommended to treat them with acupuncture in time.
