Cultural Heritage of Shilong Reservoir
1954 The main canal of Shilong Reservoir was built, and the Qujialing cultural site, a cultural heritage treasure in central Hubei, was discovered. 1955 and 1957, the Institute of Archaeology of China Academy of Sciences and the Cultural Relics Team of Shilong River-crossing Reservoir Headquarters excavated twice, and a large number of stone tools and pottery for production and life were unearthed. Stone tools include axes, chisels, shovels and trowels. Pottery includes cups, bowls, ding, pots, spinning fibers, etc. And ceramic ornaments such as rings, balls, chickens and dogs. A large number of eggshell pottery, painted pottery and painted spinning fibers show that Jianghan Plain in Neolithic Age has a high level of pottery burning technology and textile handicraft industry, which has a history of more than 4,000 years. Because of its distinctive Jianghan Plain characteristics, it is different from Yangshao culture and Longshan culture in Neolithic China, so it is named "Qujialing culture". China Academy of Sciences published the monograph "Qujialing in Jingshan" for this purpose. 1988, the State Council announced Qujialing site as a national key cultural relics protection unit. The discovery of Qujialing site shows that the Yangtze River basin, like the Yellow River basin, is the cradle of the Chinese nation. The high protection sign erected on the construction site shows its important position. Shilong Reservoir is a Neolithic site and a cultural treasure.
