The Gansu Baiyin cross-country race accident investigation report was released. What information was disclosed in the timeline?
I think that under the current level of hosting in China, if the temperature is unpredictable, then the organizer does not have a big say in the whole thing. This accident is a small chance. At the same time, the tragedy occurred.
First of all, let’s talk about the temperature. I don’t have much experience in cross-country racing in these aspects, and I don’t have any weather skills, so I rarely comment on it. What I mean is that if this kind of temperature can be predicted, then the organizers do have the responsibility to improve safety tips and even stop the competition.
On the contrary, they can only call it a natural disaster. Next, let’s talk about the multiple accidents that I think led to the tragedy. Here, most of my understanding of the game comes from the article where the WeChat official account fell to the south.
1. Temperature. This need not be explained too much.
2. The competition method of elite players. Although cross-country racing is a competitive sport, and it is understandable that elite athletes try their best to achieve excellent results, this is indeed an important reason that objectively led to the tragedy. In this competition, the runners who died unfortunately were almost all top runners. One of the reasons is that when these runners encountered situations that may lead to hypothermia, more of them chose to move forward instead of giving up.
According to what I have heard, this kind of seemingly life-threatening method is not unique to elite players in this competition, but is just a consistent style. In the first cross-country race I participated in in 2014, I personally witnessed an expert female amateur runner (marathon 300-level) who fell and was injured because she was driving too fast on a new road. The only way to save yourself is to cover your buttocks and move down a little bit. From then on, my inner view is that high-quality players may be better than ordinary players in terms of energy and methods, but they still have the chance of injury, just for the sake of bonus. , I had to give it a try, so from then on I used the most traditional slow and energy-consuming method when going downhill in cross-country races, just for safety. For ordinary runners, participating in such races is just an adjustment to their daily lives, but for elite runners, one race may be a month's worth of income, and bonuses must be obtained.
The deaths of two elite athletes in this competition attracted the most attention. One was Liang Jing, China’s top cross-country running elite, and the other was Huang Guanjun, the overall champion of the Paralympic Games. Liang Jing is already well-known, has some sponsorship contracts, and should be doing well financially. Especially Huang Guanjun, according to the reports seen so far, is a rising star who has just emerged. For players like them, , the bonus is very important, so they will not be given up casually during the game. In this tragedy, until they realized that they could not persevere, it might be too late.
I am not questioning the elites’ competition methods at all. Our ticket competition is work for them. For us, the leaders said that there is a project that is not easy to do, but you If the work is not completed, this month's salary will not be paid, so everyone has to work hard to find a way to proceed. Therefore, we can only say that this method objectively leads to tragedy.
3. Runway. In fact, I say that the organizer is not the key here. According to the description of runners who "fallen to the south", the track of this race is simple enough, with an elevation of only 3,000 meters for 100 kilometers, not to mention cross-country cross-country. The improvement in competition today was five or six years ago when I was running cross-country. This improvement was nothing more than an improvement in a mid-level 50km race. At the same time, the more difficult stages are also allocated to the first half of the race. The cp2-cp3 section is 9km and has an elevation of 100m.
It can be said that other stages are likely to be relatively easy. For runners, the experience of the same difficult road is completely different between the front and the back. In the front, it is possible to pass with more energy and push hard, while If left to the end,
it might be a "life-threatening" existence. One of the more well-known legends is the Lost Slope after 90km at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. It is said that Yu Lei, the organizer of the race every year, will be warmly greeted by runners who pass this route and say hello to their families.
The organizers are kind-hearted, but the bad thing is that the more difficult road caught up with the worst temperature, the contestants were in a dilemma, and rescuers could not keep up. This is how the tragedy happened. I can’t say how to supplement Duanqiu here. As far as Lao Bai that I participated in, the largest CP point Laoding, the loot at the beginning was only pure water. This pure water, or rely on human resources to buy a bucket of it. What comes from the barrel is very precious. At that stage, my performance was still considered to be in the middle or upper reaches.
There was very little water left, and maybe no matter how slow the runner was, he might not even drink any water. Therefore, in the platinum stage, it is understandable that there are only check-in points and no supplements, not to mention that normally, the players have sufficient energy at this point. Taking a step back, even if there is loot at this point, the only thing that will be given priority is pure water. For other items such as chocolate and red bean syrup, it is unlikely to be given at a point with such high logistics costs. .
4. Weapons and equipment.
After analyzing the game, many people said that the equipment of elite players is basically a camisole and shorts, which is a compulsory equipment. Here, based on what I have seen, this type of weaponry is basically the norm for top players. As for testing, top players actually have everything they should have, but all items pursue perfect speed and perfect lightness. Quantity, in this kind of temperature, it can only be a tragedy.
I have seen some top weapons and equipment, all of which take lightness as the first priority and pursue perfect speed. For top athletes, one sip of water in a water bag may be too much. In contrast, when I ran cross-country, I wished I could fill my bag with all kinds of snacks just like attending a celebration in elementary school. Be prepared. There is still no right or wrong here. The strict management of weapons and equipment required by the organizers is difficult to implement in the current environment. It can only be said to be another important factor leading to the tragedy.
The extreme weather has attracted people who travel lightly and are reluctant to give up on the more difficult roads. This is probably a simple summary of my own opinions. What I want to talk about later is other things.
Why do you think the organizer’s pot is not big? I have already talked about some of it before, and I will talk about some more here. First of all, it can be seen from the WeChat official account that the Platinum Cross-Country Race can be called a For a relatively well-run competition, user reviews in previous editions have been acceptable, and the organizers have also raised the threshold as much as possible. The 100 kilometers that are closed in 20 hours is still off-road no matter how low the increase is. Most of the ticket players are I am not afraid to apply for the exam at all. In other words, the organizers have tried their best to take into consideration the qualifications of players who lack experience and lack of overall strength. If it were not for this extreme situation, I believe that this operator with many years of experience would be able to Adaptation is achieved, but luck is here. This situation is too rare. I saw some runners comparing it to some well-known competitions in Japan and Hong Kong.
Maybe this kind of situation occurs in cross-country races. More mature areas will get better solutions, but for China, where cross-country racing is booming at this stage, this organizer may not be particularly outstanding, but I personally feel that if it were not for this tragedy, this competition would definitely be called Got to meet the standards.
Finally, what I want to say is that I haven’t run cross-country for a long time. How long? So far, I have only run the tnf50 in the rain in Beijing in 2014 and the first Lao Bai in 2016. Two competitions. My shoes are very ordinary "city cross-country shoes" (that is, cross-country shoes that are not very anti-slip on the ground) , trekking poles and LED headlamps are all borrowed. After working for 16 years, they gradually bought a set of decent weapons and equipment through discounts. As of today, they can still sell them second-hand at 99 new (never finished). There are many reasons for not running cross-country. The most important one is of course food. Most people would agree that cross-country is more difficult than a marathon. At least I think for me, I feel more comfortable now to ensure that I finish the cross-country race. The amount of exercise is still not enough. In addition, cost is also an important factor. The time and economic costs of long-term participation in cross-country races are far higher than those of marathon races.
Marathons are mostly located in cities with strategic geographical locations, while cross-country races are often held in remote tourist areas, which require higher transportation costs. At the same time, cross-country races are usually held across the day, so going to Non-working games must be played on Fridays, which is not very friendly to low-income working people like me, both in terms of time and money. In terms of equipment, cross-country requires a lot of equipment, and each item is valuable. As for the marathon, my current level can be won with a set of equipment worth two to three hundred. In addition, in terms of time, I don’t like the 2 hours of cross-country racing. Looking back at marathons, I have run marathons in the coldest -20 degrees and the hottest 35 degrees. Traditionally speaking, just It is a normal road race, and I have the ability to complete it within 430. I feel that it is more comfortable at this time, and the cross-country race is indeed too long.
Finally, I would like to say something I said a long time ago: I am politically opposed to the view that "I completed XX marathon or XX cross-country without much preparation" (for example, This: What should you pay attention to when participating in a marathon for the first time? ), risking your life to challenge your own luck, and finishing the race with good luck is not nb, nor is it worth showing off. On the contrary, it will deceive many novices who are watching the crowd. Try the same adventure.
Whether it is marathon or cross-country, they are both very difficult skiing sports. To put it simply, the first person in the world to finish a marathon died after finishing. Of course, the tragedy of this game has nothing to do with this. It is more like the saying that "the one who knows how to drown will be defeated by the one who talks back."
The General Administration of Quality Supervision has reported its work, and competitions from all walks of life have been terminated. Basically, people outside are optimistic about it, and some people in the running circle are a bit desperate and shouting that one size fits all. I think if everything will be relaxed normally in the future, then rectification will be carried out. Or maybe it’s good,
The marathon is actually okay, but for the cross-country race, the management level must be improved. In the past, the overall level was low, and I only caught up with the "stability test" in Platinum. In extreme cases, top-down changes will indeed be needed to improve the ability to deal with very serious situations.
May tragedy never happen again.
