The Origin of Shi Qi Pedestrian Street
According to textual research, Shi Qi was named after this landform. Let's talk about mountains first. According to historical records, Seventeen Mountains were originally a base mountain. It was not until the Song Dynasty that quarrying was started to make building materials, and the mountain was gradually stripped into the present heaped-up mountains. Seventeen Mountains, namely Yandun Mountain, also known as Fufeng, is one of the ancient coastal defense outposts. There is a beacon tower above. Whenever a pirate attack is found, smoke is burned as a warning, hence the name Yandun. In A.D. 1608, Cai Jishan, the magistrate of Xiangshan County, accepted the suggestion of the gentry and decided to build a Feng Shui Tower on Yandun Mountain, so that its total height would be the same as that of Mashan in Changzhou. This is the origin of Yandun Tower. Yandun Tower, also known as "Flower Tower" among the people, is a seven-story octagonal pavilion-style brick tower, with cornices on each floor and cast iron at the top. The whole shape is like a giant pen that writes poems in the blue sky, so it is also called "brushwork". After the completion of the Yandun Pagoda, the "Fufeng Style Writing" in the "Eight Scenery of Xiangshan" changed from the original Yandun Mountain, which looks like a writing style, to the Yandun Mountain Pagoda, which is a writing style.
Besides, in Zheng Yu's poem "The Sea of Pan Shiqi", there is a phrase "Qi diverges from the sea", which proves that the original meaning of "Qi" is indeed "Qi". But it refers not to the "qi" of stone dikes, but to the "qi" of rivers. As for why "Qi" should be changed to "Qi"? This is because Shi Qi is located to the west of Fufeng, and the ancient Xiangshan people associated it with Xiqi, the birthplace of Zhou in Zhou Xing's 800 years. For the sake of good luck, Shi Qi was changed to Qiqi. Later, the names of Feng Ming Road, Shanfeng Street and other streets in this area continued to follow this idea.
There are many mountains and rocks, and there is plenty of water. This is the origin of the name "Shi Qi"!
