The Tomb of Princess Wei Zi

As mentioned in the ancient poem, when I was a girl, I was born in the wild. In the ancient feudal society of China, most families preferred sons to daughters. This is after the Emperor Zhou, the cultural heritage of our country has been adhering to the eldest son inheritance system. Therefore, women's social status gradually decreased, coupled with the serious influence of Neo-Confucianism in the Song and Ming Dynasties, the influence of girls in the old society was naturally not too high.

But there are a few cases, such as Wu Zetian in the Tang Dynasty, who is also a woman, but her talent and advantages in all aspects have made this woman's bright future. Besides, after Wu Zetian, there was Yang Guifei, both famous aristocratic women in the Tang Dynasty. There is also a princess who was loved by Zhu Yuanzhang.

Zhu Yuanzhang died in 1398, when Zhu Yuanzhang inherited an idea. That is, after the death of the emperor, concubines need to be buried. But there is one exception, that is, Zhu Yuanzhang clearly stipulated that his own Princess Baoqing and her mother don't need to be buried together.

It can be seen that Zhu Yuanzhang has at least a special care for his little daughter and his mother. Princess Baoqing was born in A.D. 1394. When Zhu Yuanzhang died, Princess Baoqing was only 4 years old. Later, after Judy became the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty, he also liked Princess Baoqing very much.

When Princess Baoqing got married, the dowry was several times that of an ordinary princess. At that time, Judy also specially asked his crown prince to see her off. It can be seen that Princess Baoqing had a very high social status in the Ming Dynasty, which was higher than that of ordinary princesses.

According to this logic, there should be a lot of treasures as funerary objects after the death of Princess Baoqing. But in 2008, on a small barren hill in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, the construction team found a building similar to an ancient tomb and quickly contacted the local cultural relics bureau.

However, when archaeologists proved that the tomb was Princess Baoqing, the daughter of Zhu Yuanzhang, the Ming emperor, through epitaphs and other circumstances, the organization did not say that the princess tomb should be strictly protected. The reason given by experts here is also very simple, that is, there are no cultural relics inside, and the traces of theft are almost zero.

In other words, Princess Baoqing may have died without much jewelry. This is also very different from Zhu Yuanzhang's attitude towards Princess Baoqing before his death. It's strange why Princess Baoqing is Zhu Yuanzhang's beloved daughter and Judy's little sister. Noble status is more favored than other princesses. Why are there no funerary objects in the ancient tomb?
