How did the name Luzhi come from?

There are four theories about the origin of the name Luzhi:

1. It is said that Luzhi is also known as "Liuzhi". The ancient town is surrounded by Wusong River, Qingxiao River, Jiepu River and Dongda River. Surrounded by and adjacent to Cheng Lake, Dushu Lake, Jinji Lake, Dianshan Lake, Yangcheng Lake and other lakes, it is known as the "Tall of Five Lakes" and the "Clash of Six Zes". Therefore, the local people call it "Liu Zhi", and "Liu Zhi" and "Lu Zhi" are homophonic in Wuzhong dialect. Later, it was gradually called "Lu Zhi" locally.

2. It is related to the poet Lu Guimeng of the Tang Dynasty who lived here in seclusion. Because the local people commemorated him, "Luzhi" is also called "Fuli". Lu Guimeng was named "Mr. Fuli". Later, because there was a straight port in the east of the town, which led to six places, and the shape of the water flow resembled the character "甪", it was also called "Lu Zhi".

3. It is related to "Lu Duan". Lu Duan is an ancient one-horned mythical beast. Legend has it that Lu Duan can travel 18,000 miles in a day, understands four languages, knows things far away, and specializes in Feng Shui treasures.

The Master of the Divine Beast inspected the land of China and passed through Luzhi. He saw that this place was a land of lush water and grass and beautiful scenery, comparable to a "paradise", so he came down. The mythical beast brought with it auspiciousness. Ever since he came to Luzhi, the weather here has been smooth. In order to thank the mythical beast, people called it "Lu Zhi".

4. It is related to Dong Qichang, a calligrapher and painter of the Ming Dynasty. He was the most outstanding and influential calligrapher and painter in the late Ming Dynasty. He was proficient in Zen theory, poetry, and good at calligraphy and painting. I usually like to travel to Xishan and visit Dongting, and I have made friends with many literati.

Dong Qichang had a close friendship with Xu Zichang, the operatic owner of Plum Blossom Villa in Fuli (now Luzhi). One day he visited Xu Zichang in Fuli. When the conversation became interesting, he wrote a composition and mistakenly wrote " "Fu Li" is written as "Lu Zhi". It is said that later people made a mistake and simply changed Fuli to "Lu Zhi".
