Hongjiang orange is a mutant bred by Guangdong state-owned Hongjiang Farm 197 1, which belongs to grafting mosaic variation. The first generation of Hongjiang Orange Orchard was established in the spring of 1973. Since then, the chimera has been systematically screened and purified for four generations, and the directional breeding has achieved remarkable results.

The purification rate of red meat fruit increased from 89.4 1% in the first generation to 99.36% in the fourth generation, which made Hongjiang orange show genetic stability in biological characters, plant morphology and red meat fruit characters. In terms of quality, Hongjiang orange fruit is large and thin, bright and shiny, and the pulp color is orange-red, which has been appraised by experts at national conferences for many times and unanimously recognized.

The pulp juice of Hongjiang orange is crisp and tender, with more residue juice, moderate sweetness and sourness, and rich flavor. Suitable for fresh food and processing fruit juice, it is an excellent variety worth popularizing. 1980 64 varieties were tasted at the National Southern Fruit Conference of Agricultural Reclamation, and Hongjiang Orange ranked first. 1986 was rated as a high-quality fruit at the National Nanchang Citrus Supplementary Evaluation Meeting in 1.

Hongjiang orange in this area grows vigorously, bears early fruits and has high and stable yield. Put into production in the third year after planting, and enter the high-yield period in the fourth year. The average yield per mu of a 6-year-old large-scale high-yield garden is 2 083 kg.

The high-yield orchard yields 4300 kilograms per mu. At present, Hongjiang Farm has planted Hongjiang Citrus 18428 mu, which has been extended to 45 counties and cities in five southern provinces, with a planting area of1000000 mu. Hongjiang orange sells well in domestic and foreign markets because of its high yield and high quality, and its sales price is 1 times higher than that of conventional varieties.
