Space weather modeling of space weather

Space weather model refers to the computer simulation of the space environment. Similar to weather computer models, space weather models are based on a limited set of data values and infer values that describe the overall or portion of the space weather environment in the model. Each model can provide a prediction or partial prediction of how the environment will evolve over time. The computational model uses a series of mathematical equations to describe the physical processes involved. Over the past 20 years, an important part of space weather model research and development has been part of the National Science Foundation's Geospatial Environment Model (GEM) program. The two main centers for simulation are: the Center for Space Environment Simulation (CSEM) and the Center for Integrated Space Weather Modeling (CISM).
