If you want to breed osmanthus fragrans, there are many methods, grafting, cutting, layering and cutting are a very common method. Today, Uncle Gardener will share with you the method of cutting osmanthus.

1, hardwood cutting

Use older branches for cutting, and the cutting time is generally from March to April. At this time, the branches have not sprouted. Choose healthy branches that grow for a relatively long time, cut them into about 15cm, cut them into loose and breathable soil, then water them and maintain them in a warm environment until they sprout and take root.

2. Soft cuttings

This cutting is usually carried out in July and August, when the growth is very vigorous, and it is very simple to choose the branches to be cut. Choose a healthy twig, trim it to a length of 8 to 10 cm, leave 2 to 3 leaves on the branch, cut the twig into prepared soil, then water it and maintain it in the shade, and it will take root in about 20 days.

3. Cutting method

6-8 days before cutting, the cuttings can be soaked in running water. If it is stagnant water, the water must be changed every day until the obvious irregular tumor appears at the cutting incision, and then the cutting can be carried out. Of course, it can also be soaked in 1% sucrose solution for 24 hours, which can significantly improve the survival rate.

Before cutting, apply sufficient base fertilizer to the bed to be cut, and the water content should be sufficient. Then, directly make a hole with a tool, insert branches along the hole, and then seal the hole tightly. The cutting depth is 2/3 of the cutting length, the plant spacing is 10cm, and the row spacing is 15cm. After insertion, pour water.

4. Maintenance and management after cutting

After the cutting of Osmunda japonica is completed, the seedbed must be covered with plastic film, sealed with soil, and covered with sunshade net. Generally, cutting can take root in about three weeks. After the cuttings take root, the mulch can be removed in batches. In addition, the seedbed should be kept moist after cutting, and watered with small water and clear water at seedling stage to make it penetrate the seedbed and avoid flooding.

Irrigation 1 time every 3 ~ 5 days. Quick-acting fertilizer should be applied after 40 days of cutting, and the principle of fertilization by stages should be mastered. Regularly weed and loosen the soil artificially. Small seedlings should be shallow and big seedlings should be deep. Generally, the depth of loosening soil is 2 to 4 cm, and then it is increased to 8 to 10 cm.
