There are two versions of the name Xidi. The other is: the rivers on the land of China are all eastward, while the rivers around Xidi are all westward, so Xichuan is also called Xidi. Xidi is also called Xixi.
At the main entrance, the first thing I saw was the Hu Pailou, which was built in the sixth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (AD 1578). This is magnificent and represents the prominent position of the Hu family. The archway is made of local "Yixian Green" marble, with five floors at the top, each with different exquisite stone carvings. Old streets are everywhere: hairy tofu, snakehead, sesame cake, brown sugar, She Yan, Mao Feng, Hericium erinaceus, chopped pepper sauce and pickles. The most common things from Huangshan to Hongcun to Xidi these days are hairy tofu and stinky tofu. We don't like this food very much. We only tasted it once.
After visiting Tunxi Old Street, go to Liyang Old Street opposite the bridge.
