Automotive knowledge | What is the throttle? Is it necessary to clean?
1. What is the throttle?
Throttle is a controllable valve that controls air to enter the engine. After the air enters the intake pipe, it will be mixed with gasoline to form a combustible mixture, which will be burned. Simply put, the throttle is the throat of an automobile engine, which is located between the air filter and the intake manifold. The throttle position sensor is mainly used to control the throttle opening according to the energy required by the engine, so as to adjust the intake air.
2. Is it necessary to clean it?
If the vehicle is in working condition for a long time, the throttle will hide dirt and shelter evil people. Once it is too dirty, it will lead to problems such as weak engine acceleration and increased fuel consumption. In order to keep the engine in good condition at all times, it is recommended to clean the throttle valve regularly.
3. Under what circumstances should the throttle be cleaned?
Generally speaking, vehicles need to be cleaned once when the mileage reaches 20,000 ~ 40,000 kilometers, but the specific cleaning cycle needs to be determined according to the air environment of the vehicle, the type of oil used and other factors. When the car is in the following situations, the accelerator should be cleaned.
(1) It is difficult to start and the speed is not smooth.
The carbon deposit formed by dirty throttle will adsorb fuel, dilute the concentration of mixed gas that really enters the cylinder, and lead to poor engine operation, such as difficult starting, poor acceleration, sudden refueling and tempering, excessive exhaust, and increased fuel consumption.
(2) Unstable idle speed, even flameout.
If the throttle is too dirty, the vehicle will shake and turn off at idle speed. Because the throttle opening is very small when idling, when the throttle becomes dirty, the throttle opening cannot be accurately controlled, resulting in high and low speed, and even flameout in serious cases.
(3) The engine fault light is red.
When the throttle is not too dirty, the engine controller (ECU) can adjust it adaptively. As the throttle gets dirtier, the throttle opening needs to be bigger and bigger. At this time, the ECU can't adjust the intake air accurately, and the engine fault light will light up.
4. How to clean the throttle?
There are two ways to clean the throttle: disassembly and cleaning and disassembly-free.
(1) Dismantling and washing-free: "hanging bottles" is generally adopted. When the engine is running, the cleaner is continuously sprayed through the air inlet to clean the air inlet and throttle, but the effect is relatively general.
(2) Disassembly and cleaning: It is necessary to disassemble the intake assembly and scrub the throttle valve with professional cleaning agent. Although it takes a long time, it can thoroughly clean the intake valve, intake pipe and other components.
No matter which way you choose, you must remember to match the throttle data with the detection computer and reset the throttle opening after cleaning. Because the ECU of the vehicle has memorized the opening when there is carbon deposit, if it is not reset, the engine will have unstable idle speed and high speed, which is easy to cause traffic accidents.
Tips:
Although the throttle is small, its importance cannot be ignored! Develop good driving habits in daily life and clean the accelerator regularly. This can not only keep the fuel system clean, but also help to prevent the symptoms such as unstable idle speed and poor acceleration caused by carbon deposition, and prolong the service life of the vehicle.
