Why are the tombs of the Qing emperor divided into East and West Tombs? ?
The tombs of emperors in China all followed the records in the Book of Rites, which can be said to be the earliest etiquette system in China. It has been regarded as a classic by Confucianism, and even the emperor can't surpass it. In the Book of Rites, there is a word called Zhao Muzhi, which has become the standard of tomb construction in tomb knowledge. The tomb of the first ancestor is in the middle, and his descendants are listed on the left and right sides in turn. This form conforms to China's traditional filial piety, which requires strict grades and cannot be easily changed.
When People's Republic of China (PRC) was founded, the Qing Dynasty followed this system. The first generation of the emperor shunzhi chose the land of Qing Dongling, and his son Kangxi was buried here very obediently. However, when he was in Yongzheng, something went wrong, and Aqing Xiling was abruptly built, which made future generations very embarrassed.
It is said that Yongzheng didn't want to be buried in the Qing Dongling, because he didn't get a suitable position. Everyone has heard the story of the May 4th Movement, but this is just a legend in unofficial history. According to official records, Yongzheng did not find a suitable tomb on the land of the Qing Dongling, so he chose a piece at random and felt that it was not good for his feng shui. So, he found a piece of auspicious land of 10 thousand years in other places, which is the location of his mausoleum a hundred years later.
After Qianlong succeeded to the throne, he had a headache for a long time. His father was so proud that he left a mess that he had to beautify his father himself. So he racked his brains to come up with a way, that is, with Beijing as the central axis, let the Qing Dongling and Qing Xiling be on the left and right sides respectively. Although the scope was a little larger, they somehow returned to the scope of Zhao Mu's system, and then he issued a decree. From then on, the descendants were one east and one west respectively.
However, although Qianlong thought very well, his descendants also inherited the unreliable ideas of their ancestors. Only his son Jiaqing obeyed his will, and then the emperor who ascended the throne chose according to his own preferences. There was no law at all.
Under such special circumstances, the imperial tomb of the Qing Dynasty was divided into two parts, but from now on, the feng shui of the Qing Xiling Mausoleum is indeed better. After all, the emperor buried in Dongling, Qing Dynasty was robbed by Sun Dianying, the thief of Dongling, for a long time afterwards. I wonder if there is a spirit in Yongzheng underground, and I will sigh how wise my decision is!
