Beijing Riverside City in Riverside City
Beijing Mentougou Riverside City and Enemy Tower
Overview
The Riverside City was called Sancha (Cha) Village and Yanhekou in ancient times because it guarded several mountain mouth entrances. After the city was built in the sixth year of Wanli (AD 1578), it was first called Yanhe City. It is under the jurisdiction of Zijing Pass, one of the three passes in the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty, and is one of the key points leading to Beijing from outside the Great Wall. According to the "Stele of Yanhe City Guards Office" erected by Zhang Jingwei, the commander of the local commander of the garrison along the river mouth in the fourth year of the Ming Dynasty (1642): the garrison along the river mouth was established in the 32nd year of Jiajing (1553), and the city was built in Wanli In the sixth year (1578), the mountains along the river were used as the city and the river was used as the pond, which was the throat of the capital. At that time, this place and the seven buildings were under the jurisdiction of Yanhe City, so the towers were marked with Yan No. X.
In the 19th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1591), Feng Zilu, the deputy envoy of Shanxi Tixingjianchasi, recorded the reason for the construction of the city: ) Yun (today's Datong) is the gateway, with thistles as the screen, and it is along the river mouth at the intersection of the two towns. Looking east to the city, west to the fortress leads to the desert. also. When the captives entered the fortress, the people heard that the police dispersed and took shelter in the valley. The people could not lie down on the mat. Therefore, the imperial court built a defensive city here and ordered the officials to have money and reserves. If they did not have it every time, it would take a few months to complete the task. There is no red feather police, and the government and other measures are used to prevent it. This is the city. Therefore, we know that to set up dangers to defend the country, the only way is to appoint people. Border fortresses were built to defend against foreign invasion from the north, to station troops for garrison, and to build the Great Wall in successive dynasties. This was the original intention. This stele was originally erected at the Saint's Temple in Yanhe City. Four hundred years of wind and rain destroyed the upper half of it, and the rest of the text was also severely weathered and difficult to read. These two stone tablets, the "Stele of Yanhe City Guards Mansion" and the "Stele of the City Construction Record at Yanhe Estuary", are now in the Yanhe City Office.
The city along the river is about one mile long and half a mile wide, and is divided into two gates: east and west. The east gate is called Wan'an Gate. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the 1950s, and only the city walls and door openings are still identifiable. There is a stone tablet of the city along the river erected on the east gate wall.
The city along the river and the enemy tower are on the northwest mountain of Mentougou District. It was a frontier fortress and military garrison fortress in the Ming Dynasty. Because the city is close to the Yongding River, it is named Yanhe City.
The city is about 420 meters long from east to west and 300 meters long from north to south. It has two east and west gates, the east gate is named Wan'an (has been demolished) and the west gate is named Yongsheng, both of which are masonry structures. The city wall was built with strips of stone and cobblestones (now mostly destroyed). In the city, there is a stone tablet titled "Record of City Construction along the River Estuary", which records the whole process of building the city defense under the supervision of the censor Zhongcheng Zhang Lu in the sixth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1578).
This city has jurisdiction over 15 enemy towers located on mountain tops or dangerous passes along a 40-kilometer-long line along the river mouth, Longmenkou, Huangcaoliang, and Hongshuikou. Three of them have been destroyed. It was built between the first and third years of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1573). It is divided into two floors, about 15 meters high and more than 10 meters wide. The bottom floor is paved with stone strips and the walls are laid with bricks; there are crenels around the upper floor, and there are ladders connecting the upper and lower floors. The stone foreheads on the enemy towers are all engraved with numbers (from Yanzi No. 1 to No. 15). Although some of the enemy towers are not connected by city walls, they can be in danger depending on the terrain and echo each other to form a continuous line of defense.
What is even more peculiar is that there is an unnumbered enemy tower in Liyuan Ridge on the east side of Shuishuikou. Its shape and appearance are basically the same as the numbered enemy tower. It attracts a large number of tourists to visit here. Visitors can learn about the endless creativity of the working people in ancient my country, as well as the ability and determination to resist foreign aggression. The combination of history and reality, can you not be moved by the strength of the motherland?

The first time I saw the small town along the river, I was attracted by its simplicity and elegance. Overwhelmed. It is truly surrounded by mountains and rivers, and has a truly antique flavor. Although it does not have the elegance and charm of the small bridges and flowing water in the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River, it is graceful in its majesty, and contains simplicity in its desolation. It is a quiet and leisurely place that is extremely difficult to find in the north.
The fertile river mud, abundant farmyard manure, and the irrigation of pure river water make the vegetables here especially juicy, and the varieties are also diverse. Home vegetables, wild vegetables, and wild vegetables, both famous and unknown, are passed down from ancestors and imported from outside. It is not only a vegetable basket for small town people, but also a beautiful scenery. Watching these vegetable gardens and walking through the fenced alleys not only gives you the novelty of the winding paths, but also the comfort of watching landscape paintings; under the blue sky and white clouds, beside the clear water of Nanshan Mountain, you can see patches of green vegetable gardens, flat land, and straight borders. , colorful vegetable flowers, thorn fence covered with beans, bees and butterflies singing and dancing happily in the garden. Outside the garden is a quiet river, where small fish play freely. There are washing stones and clothes drying poles by the river. After the owner finished tending the vegetable garden, he washed the picked vegetables in the river, put away the clothes to dry, and left the firewood door ajar...a real picture of a paradise.
Simple nature, open-mindedness, beautiful environment and pure food help people in this small town live longer. Elderly people in their 80s and 90s can be seen everywhere here. Most of them have good hearing and vision, and are refreshed and refreshed. They work in the fields without a moment's rest. The habit they have developed over decades is their greatest pleasure.
Every day before dawn, small town people who are accustomed to getting up early get up. Women cook, feed chickens and pigs, men chop wood and carry water or deliver manure to water gardens. In the city, chickens crow and dogs bark. There were many people outside the door, and some people were taking an early morning walk. Busyness and tranquility amidst the smoke and morning mist constituted the characteristic dawn of the small town.
The most beautiful thing is the night in the small town. It is quiet in the mountains, the green hills hide into the darkness and silently guard the small town. A bright moon hangs on the treetops outside the city, and the naughty children are singing sweetly to ancient nursery rhymes. When I go to sleep, I also have to practice "dog pawing" and "carp beating" in my dreams. The small bridge outside the city and the willow trees by the river are a paradise for young people. Night is the best time to fall in love, fish and catch shrimps, and under the stage in the city next to the ancient locust trees is a paradise for the elderly: the history of the small town, the glory of the ancestors, the myths and allusions passed down from generation to generation, are reflected in their different versions The performance is full of emotion and emotion. If you talk about your extraordinary experience of carrying a gun and fighting in the East, it will be even more impassioned. Not only will the young people's blood boil, but they themselves will feel young again... The old man is not good at staying up late, just like a child who doesn't want to get up early. When everything is calm, The moon hangs in the sky, only the nightingales are singing and the crickets are chirping. The watery moonlight dyes the deep blue sky into the distant deep sea. The quiet town sleeps in the shadow of the trees...
The nourishment of the beautiful water of the spiritual mountain The upbringing has made the children here handsome and healthy, with a sense of intelligence and spirituality between their brows. The girls are pure and free, and the boys are smart and lively. They live in a small town and have the whole world in their hearts. They know about the celestial body, the universe, and electronic networks. They are blond, blue-eyed, big-nosed foreigners. Visit their homes and they will say "hello" and "welcome" in English.
The grown-up children have left the small town and are studying, working, enlisting in the army, doing business, and they are present in all walks of life. But no matter where they go, no matter what they do, they will never forget that they are from a small town. The honesty, kindness, and hard work passed down to them by their ancestors have penetrated into their bones and become their lifelong wealth.
The wanderer will always return. No matter whether he is wealthy or frustrated, the small town will welcome him with his mother's broad mind. Here is their childhood, their ancestral graves, and this is the place that gives them life and wings. Here is the spool of the kite, here are their roots!
What will they bring to the small town?
An ancient but young town, may your tomorrow be better.
