Yancheng District, a district under the jurisdiction of Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is the seat of the Heyuan Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal People's Government, and is also the political, economic and cultural center of Heyuan City. It is located in the northeast of Guangdong Province, south of Heyuan City, at the confluence of the middle and upper reaches of the Dongjiang River and the Xinfeng River.
Yancheng District is part of the original Heyuan County. The original Heyuan County has a history of more than 1,500 years from its establishment in the first year of Yongming in the Southern Qi Dynasty (483) to 1988. In January 1988, with the approval of the State Council, Heyuan County was abolished and Heyuan City was established. The original Heyuan County was divided into Yuancheng District and suburbs (later changed to Dongyuan County). Yuancheng District is the only municipal district and political, economic and cultural center of the ancient Hakka town and the source of the Wanlv River.
The geographical environment of Yuancheng District
Yuancheng District is located at the intersection of Dongjiang River and Xinfengjiang River, in the river source basin. The northern part of the area is the Dongpu small plain formed by the alluvial accumulation of the Dongjiang River and Xinfengjiang River, the middle part is hills, the south is the Puqian small plain formed by the alluvial accumulation of the Dongjiang River, and the west is the low mountain and hilly area. The overall terrain is low in the east and high in the west. The highest is Guishan in the west, with an altitude of 1,056 meters, and the lowest is Dongjiang Shuangtou Village, with an altitude of 46 meters.
Yancheng District is located in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province and belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone. The overall environmental quality maintains an excellent level. It is one of the 13 cities in the country whose atmospheric environmental quality reaches the national first-class standard. The northeast monsoon prevails in the winter half of the year, and the weather is relatively dry and cold; the southwest and southeast monsoon prevails in the summer half of the year, with high temperatures and rainy weather.
