Why do houses rarely face north or south in Europe?
European houses do not choose to "sit north and face south". On the one hand, this is because their cultural customs are different from our cultural traditions. Unlike us Chinese, they are more particular about Feng Shui. Therefore, they do not taboo or pursue the good or bad aspects of Feng Shui. On the other hand, the orientation of European houses actually faces north and south. The orientation of the house is mainly determined by the need for lighting.
Speaking of Feng Shui, it is actually something that Chinese people are more superstitious and taboo about. Many times, we encounter problems related to Feng Shui. The construction of a house is one aspect, the decoration of the house and the placement of furniture, etc., all involve Feng Shui issues.
The so-called "sit north and face south" is because the ancients believed that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. If you sit east to west or west to east, it means you can only enjoy the sun for half a day. The east and west positions are dominated by the green dragon and the white tiger. Therefore, the best position in Feng Shui should be facing south. There is a saying from the ancients that if you build a house facing north and face south, your descendants will not have enough food and clothing. Therefore, people in the past were very particular about the orientation of their houses.
But in Europe, the orientation of buildings is definitely towards the most convenient side. For example, if there are houses on both sides of the street, if the house on the left faces the street and faces north and south, it means that the house on the right must face south and north. Because Europeans are more pragmatic than superstitious, if it is more convenient to face north than south, they will definitely choose the more convenient way to face south.
Moreover, in European countries, lighting is different in different places. If it's in an urban area, the direction may not matter. But in the suburbs, the orientation of the house must be consistent with the direction with the best lighting.
