The simple meaning of democracy

The word "democracy" evolved from the Greek words "people" and "rule or authority", which originally meant "people's rule".

Herodotus, a Greek historian, used this concept for the first time in history, referring to the political system and practice of Athens, a Greek city-state. From this point of view, "democracy" is a political concept from the beginning.
