Why is there no water in Zhanghe River now?

The Zhanghe River is now out of water mainly because the weather has dried up due to drought.

Zhanghe River is a tributary of the Zhangweinan Canal system in the Haihe River Basin in North China. The Zhang River was called Heng Zhang or Heng Shui in ancient times. Heng means horizontal, which means that the ancient Zhang River migrated impermanently, dissipating heat and being uncontrollable. Before the end of the Western Han Dynasty, the Zhanghe River belonged to the Yellow River system. Later, due to the southward migration of the Yellow River, it was incorporated into the Haihe River system.

The upper reaches are composed of two rivers, one is the Qingzhang River and the other is the Zhuozhang River. Both originate from the hinterland of the Taihang Mountains in southeastern Shanxi Province (administratively affiliated to Shanxi Jinzhong and Changzhi and other places), and the lower reaches serve as the boundary river. It passes through a section that divides the border between Hebei Province and Henan Province, and then joins the Wei River in Guantao County, Handan City, Hebei Province, known as the Zhangwei River and Wei Canal, and enters the South Canal of the Haihe River system. The Zhanghe River flows through 21 counties and cities in three provinces and four cities, with a length of more than 400 kilometers and a drainage area of 18,200 square kilometers.
