How is edema formed?
Edema can be divided into yang water and yin water. Yang water is flooded by feng shui, soaked by water and full of damp heat; Yin water is spleen-yang deficiency, kidney-yang deficiency and deficiency of both qi and blood.
Common syndrome
Overflow: Edema comes quickly, starting from eyelid or head, then swelling of limbs and whole body, dysuria, soreness of limbs, fever, aversion to cold or bad wind, or cough and asthma, sore throat, red tongue with thin and white fur, and tight or rapid pulse.
Wet immersion in water: whole body edema, fingers failing to press, short urination, drowsiness, chest tightness, abdominal distension, anorexia and disgust. White and greasy fur, slow pulse.
Damp-heat: edema, bright color, fullness in chest and abdomen, upset and thirsty, short and red urine, or dry stool. The fur is yellow and greasy, and the pulse is heavy.
Spleen yang deficiency: swelling below the waist, difficult to recover, abdominal distension, anorexia in loose stool, listlessness, pale complexion, short and red urine, pale tongue, fat body with teeth marks, white and slippery fur and slow pulse.
Decline of kidney-yang: facial edema, edema below the waist, inability to be depressed, cold pain in the waist, wet scrotum, tepid limbs, fatigue and chills, dull or whitish complexion, pale tongue, white fur, and thin or slow pulse.
Deficiency of both qi and blood: facial paralysis, edema of limbs, pale or sallow complexion, pale lips, dizziness, palpitation, shortness of breath, mental fatigue, listlessness, pale tongue with little coating, and weak pulse.
