When traveling to Chaozhou, people first think of Han Yu, a writer who "ruled the tide in August and made a name for himself through the ages". In the 14th year of Tang Yuanhe (8 19), he was demoted as the secretariat of Chaozhou for remonstrating Buddhist bones. He only stayed in Chaozhou for eight months before being transferred to Yuanzhou. Later generations built the Han Wengong Temple behind the secretariat. In the sixth year of Yuan You in the Northern Song Dynasty (109 1), Wang Jundi, the year of Zhizhou, built a new Han Temple in Qili, Chaonan District. After its completion, Su Shi wrote an inscription for it.

In the sixteenth year of Xichun in the Southern Song Dynasty (1 189), Chaozhou Zhijun built a new temple on the Dongshan Mountain where Han Yu planted his own oak trees, which is now the public temple on the other side of the Han River.
