What are the steps of narcissus carving technique?

The carving of narcissus bulbs is a unique gardening technique of Fujian flower farmers, with peculiar shape and vivid image. The basis of sculpting is crab claw narcissus, and the steps are as follows: peeling scales: first, remove the dead roots and brown outer membrane of narcissus, and hold the narcissus head with your left hand so that the curved side of the leaf bud faces you; Hold the meat cleaver in your right hand, and cut an arc horizontally at a distance of about 1cm from the stem disk, with a depth that does not damage the bud, and peel off the scales on the upper part of the cutting line layer by layer until the leaf buds are exposed.

Removing leaf bracts: remove spindle scales and leaf bracts on both sides of leaf buds one by one. If the two leaf buds are too close, gently push them away with your fingers, and then cut into the knife to remove the scales in the middle. The leaf buds are covered with a layer of smooth scales, which should also be carefully peeled off until the tender yellow leaf buds are exposed. Keep the scales on the other side of the bud about 1/4 as the back wall.

Trimming: In order to roll the blade into a crab claw shape, one side of the blade must be trimmed about 1/3. Because one side of the leaf is injured, it will tend to grow, prompting the leaf to bend to the injured side, forming a crab claw shape. The flower bud is wrapped in the middle of the leaf, so when cutting the leaf edge, you must hold one side of the leaf with your fingers to separate the flower bud from the leaf, and then feed the knife from the outside to the inside to cut off one side of the leaf edge evenly.

Carved pedicel: The purpose of carving pedicel is to control growth and bend pedicel. When carving a pedicel, you need to cut off about 1/4 from top to bottom (or poke a few small holes in the pedicel with a knife tip). If the pedicel is too short when carving, you can also water the bulb for a few days before carving the pedicel. Be careful not to hurt the bud when carving. If the bud is scratched, it will rot easily after soaking in water. Whether to leave the small light bulbs on both sides is decided according to the modeling needs.

The carving of narcissus not only makes it more exquisite and beautiful, but also has profound metaphorical significance in every work. For example, Ling Bo, the Jade Goose, shows the intimate scene of swan mother and son swimming freely. You should choose a ball with many buds and a big side ball as the material. When carving, hold the ball in your hand and aim the curved bud tip at yourself, as in the previous method (the ball root does not need to be carved). After carving, carry water according to the general method. But when the root system grows 3 ~ 4 cm, put the small beads into the depth of the basin and lift the mother stem (put pebbles on the opposite side of the mother stem from the small beads). When flowering, the whole bulb will be flat again, and the naturally growing small bulb buds will bend towards the mother stem. Then roll the leaves on the bulb into a "goose head" (if there are buds to pick), and put a small button or other suitable things in your eyes to decorate your eyes. Adjust the position of the flowers slightly according to the swan's situation, and then cut off the excess leaves. In this way, Jade Goose Ling Bo is lifelike.

Phoenix Dance: It is intended to show the graceful posture and supercilious arrogance of Phoenix. Sculpture is similar to Shangfa. One side of the mother bulb has a big one and a small one, and two or three buds with flowers are confirmed in the scales on the other side. Only cut the gap between buds vertically, without carving leaves and pedicels. The other female bulbs are carved as above. Absorbent cotton should be applied to the roots during hydroponics to facilitate water absorption. When flowering, the leaves of small bulbs are tied into a "phoenix head" in a phoenix way, while the flowers and leaves grown by other carved buds are not carved into a "phoenix tail", and the flowers, leaves and bulbs grown by other carved buds are "phoenix bodies". An elegant narcissus basin and a dancing Cai Feng will come alive before your eyes.
