Ink painting Jiangnan secret place Shengjing Mountain

(Introduction: Ruian Shengjing Mountain is a national cultural protection unit. It has long been famous. I have always wanted to see the true face of Mount Lu. This Sunday, my husband proposed: Let’s go to Shengjing Mountain together! I jumped into it with joy The black car, accompanied by the singing, drove happily to the suburbs)

If the mountain is not high, there will be immortals, and if the water is not deep, there will be dragons. Shengjing Mountain is full of mystery with its alluring dream chamber, unique stone architecture, and legendary Taoist cultivation legends, making people linger and forget to leave.

Shengjing Mountain is 748.6 meters above sea level. Because there is a well in the middle of the stone temple on the mountain that never overflows or dries up all year round. People call it the "Holy Well" and the mountain gets its name.

The car enters the hinterland of Shengjing Mountain Scenic Area, where the vegetation is lush, the negative oxygen ions are overwhelming, and the water quality is sweet and pure.

The smoke on the Holy Well Mountain is filled with smoke. It is like looking at the beauty through a gauze curtain, feeling her beauty, elegance and charm. The patches of green are of different shades, like a wet ink painting. "After the new rain in the empty mountains, autumn comes late." The artistic conception comes to mind. Walking on the road to the summit, the continuous stone steps blend with the people. The static stone steps are solidified scales, and the dynamic crowds are moving notes. The clattering footsteps create a pleasant sound of nature. People are in the scenery, scenery is in the people, and they are integrated.

We walked to the top of the mountain, bought a ticket, and entered the Holy Well Stone Hall.

The Stone Palace was built in the first year of Jingding in the Southern Song Dynasty and rebuilt from Wanli in the Ming Dynasty to Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty. The stone hall faces east from the west and consists of five major parts: the mountain gate, the archway, the front hall, the back hall and the left and right wing rooms. They are distributed on a central axis, forming a symmetrical architectural pattern. The beams, columns, purlins, brackets, walls, roofs, tables, beds, stools, etc. of the palace are all made of stone. More than 3,000 strips of granite were used in total, which is an important part of the history of southern Zhejiang. The earliest, largest and best preserved stone building complex.

Shengjing Mountain has strong religious color and gorgeous scenery. It was a Taoist priest named Xu Xun who first made Shengjing Mountain famous.

Xu Xun was a native of Nanchang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Because of him, the proverb "when one person attains enlightenment, chickens and dogs ascend to heaven" has been passed down for thousands of years. Legend has it that in the second year of Ningkang in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (374), Xu Xun and his family of 42 uprooted their homes and ascended to heaven. Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty named him "The True Lord of Divine Power and Miaoji", and he was known as "Xu Zhenjun" or "Xu Yang" in the world.

Before Xu Xun became a Taoist priest, he was extremely talented and well versed in classics, history, astronomy, geography, medicine, and the theory of yin and yang and the five elements. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, there was no imperial examination system. Talents were selected without passing the examination, but relied on the recommendation of local prestigious people, which was called the examination of filial piety and integrity. Xu Xun, who had both ability and political integrity, was repeatedly recommended as an official by virtue of his filial piety and integrity. However, he refused and had to become the magistrate of Jingyang County. But Xu Xun's ambition was not in officialdom, so he resigned and traveled around, practicing Taoist magic.

One day, Xu Xunyun swam to Huagai Mountain in Ruian. He saw lush trees on the mountain and clear water in a well, so he made alchemy and practiced Taoism here. In memory of Xu Xun, later generations renamed Huagai Mountain as Xu Feng Mountain, called the clear well water a holy well, and built a temple in his memory. It was originally a wooden structure, but it collapsed because it could not withstand the wind and rain. In the Ming Dynasty, it was rebuilt on the original site and the stone structure was adopted, so that it can be preserved to this day.

Xu Xun not only integrated his "immortal name" into Shengjing Mountain, but also used his Taoist culture to render Shengjing Mountain into a mysterious and magnificent "famous mountain".

Today, we still see groups of people carrying water filled with "holy" water down the mountain. I hope to use holy water to cleanse my soul and nourish my life.

There are many inscriptions in the hall that record the people of Wen Ruian who came here to "pray for rain" during the Song and Ming dynasties, recording the times and disasters of many severe droughts. Lin Bo, the administrator, said that although there is no longer a rain praying ceremony, Buddhas from Shengjing Mountain are always carried to Buddhist consecrations in various places to show their authenticity.

The mystery of the holy well lies not only in the attainment of enlightenment and immortality, or the longevity of the holy water, but also in the auspicious dreams. There are six rooms in the left and right wings of the stone hall for people to dream. The plaque "Ji Meng You Wei" written during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty hangs high on the eaves of the wing.

There is a stone room on the left and right sides of the stone hall, named "Holy Well Dream Room". This is the relic of the Ming Dynasty Pavilion Lao Zhang Cong who asked for dreams and fortune-telling. It has twelve rooms with a row of rows inside. The stone bed is used for people to pray for dreams, and there are stone statues such as Land God and Mengsi God. Each room has only a door but no windows, making it quiet and quiet. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, many famous people have come here to seek their dreams, and there are still plaques inscribed by famous people such as Ming Shengbless, Xiqingtang, Shi Mingming, Shi Lu Kaoxiang, Ji Meng Youyi, Cun Xinzhai, etc.

The stone tablet "Brief Notes of the Holy Well Dream Room" at the door of the wing records the legend of the Ming Dynasty Ge Lao and the Dream Room. Zhang Ge Lao, that is, Zhang Cong, was born in Longwan Yongqiang. Be less ambitious, be smart and eager to learn. When he was young, because he was eager for fame, he went to the Holy Well Stone Hall to pray for good dreams. He slept on the stone bed until five o'clock. He dreamed that one of his eyes was gouged out and nailed to a tree in front of his door. He was so frightened that he slipped home early the next morning. Later, in the 16th year of Zhengde (1521), Wuzong of the Ming Dynasty, he won the Jinshi. During the Jiajing period, he was promoted to the cabinet bachelor, which was equivalent to the prime minister (after Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty, he abolished the post of prime minister). He led his troops to destroy the Shengjing Stone Temple because he was jealous of gouging out his eyes. When the soldiers reached the mountainside, they were stopped by an old man with white beard and hair and questioned him. After he finished telling the reason for coming to suppress, the old man laughed loudly and said: "You are in vain to be a cabinet bachelor. One 'wood' plus one 'eye', doesn't it mean the word 'xiang'?" Zhang Cong suddenly realized, I was so ashamed that I was about to bow down and apologize, but the old man suddenly disappeared.

Later, Zhang Cong funded the construction of a stone archway on the Shengjing Mountain Road, and donated the imperial treasure "River Carp Wood Bridge Frame" to the Shengjing Stone Hall. Now the treasure is lost. And the legends and dream chambers about him still exist.

In addition to Zhang Ge, Ruian Sun Xidan’s father once dreamed of Luoyang Zhigui in his dream room, and later he had his son Xidan. Sun Xidan had a photographic memory of reading when he was young. As an adult, he won the title of Tanhua and became an important minister of Qianlong. It really foreshadows the "Luoyang Zhigui" (Guizi). Today, the Tanhua Building on Ruizhong Campus was built in memory of Sun Xidan.

Shengjing Mountain is both a Taoist site and a Buddhist Bodhisattva. There is no sense of incompatibility between the two. This is because the people's simple beliefs do not seem to have much to do with religion, and they seem to ignore anything Taoism and Buddhism just believe in gods. If there is a god, you can worship it. You can worship it whenever you want. You are very free and casual. People neither understand nor need philosophical religion. Their mentality is purely utilitarian and pragmatic, and their main purpose is to have a kind of spiritual sustenance and hope. From the perspective of ordinary people, when difficulties arise in real life and they need help when they have deficiencies, they place their hope in some so-called gods to bless them by "answering requests", "rescuing people in distress", "having a son early", "making me rich", etc. I hope that the various gods in charge of production and life in the world, or the characters in myths and legends, or the famous historical figures in ancient times will show their divine power. And Shengjing Mountain is famous far and wide because of the effect of the omen dreams of many celebrities.

The beauty of the holy well lies in the sea of flowers embellishment.

Every spring, the holy well becomes a tourist hotspot. When the azaleas are blooming all over the mountains and fields, the mountains are no longer the usual green, but like red clouds covering the top of the mountains. It is both real and illusory, adding more mystery to the holy well. Why did such a spectacular sea of flowers only appear in recent years? Because people's living standards have improved now, they no longer go to the mountains to cut firewood. This has inadvertently preserved the large number of wild rhododendrons in this area.

It is said that "Dwelling in Fuchun Mountain" by the Yuan Dynasty painter Huang Gongwang was painted with the landscape and villages along the Shengjing Mountain in his hometown of Mayu as the background. If confirmed, Shengjing Mountain will have another legend.

Holy water, stone temples, legends, sea of flowers, and the secret Holy Well Mountain, why wouldn’t people be tempted to want to find out?

"The benevolent enjoy the mountains, the wise enjoy the water." Appreciate the mountains and rivers, rather than stay in the mountains and rivers. Use your own heart to appreciate the true nature of the mountains and rivers, swim deep and wide, and see the wonders.
