What are the symptoms of the broken water tank thermostat?
Thermostat, English full name thermostat, is an automatic temperature regulating device, which usually contains temperature sensing elements. The flow of coolant is opened and closed by expansion or contraction, that is, the amount of water entering the radiator is automatically adjusted according to the temperature of coolant, and the cooling capacity of the cooling system is adjusted by changing the circulation range of coolant. Its main function is to shut down the car before the temperature reaches the normal temperature. At this time, the engine coolant returns to the engine through the water pump and circulates in the engine, thus rapidly heating the engine. When the temperature exceeds the normal temperature, it can be turned on to let the cooling liquid circulate in the radiator loop of the whole water tank to dissipate heat quickly.
At present, there are two main types of automobile thermostats, one is electronic thermostat and the other is paraffin thermostat. Electronic thermostats have only been applied to automobiles in recent years. At present, there are still a lot of paraffin thermostats used in automobiles, all of which work through the expansion and contraction of paraffin in the thermostat. When the general electronic thermostat fails, there will be a fault code display, which is easier to check. However, there are no electronic components inside the paraffin thermostat, and there are mechanical devices inside, so if there is a fault, there will be no fault code display.
Thermostat failure usually has two symptoms. First, the thermostat can't be fully opened. The water thermometer shows that the water temperature is in the high temperature area, but the fan of the water tank does not turn, the engine temperature is high, and it is easy to lack antifreeze, which will happen. On the other hand, if the thermostat is turned on or off, the water temperature will rise slowly, especially in winter, and the water temperature is still in the low temperature zone of 10-20 minutes. Because the temperature is low in winter, even if the cooling fan is not turned on, the wind driven by driving is enough to reduce the water temperature to a very low level. No matter how long it is turned on, the water temperature will not come up, so the warm air will not be hot, which means that the warm air will not be hot no matter whether the thermostat is turned on or off.
If the thermostat is broken, the most obvious symptoms will appear on the water thermometer. If the thermostat main valve is opened too early, the engine warm-up time will be prolonged and the engine temperature will be too low, which will affect the efficiency. If you drive too slowly, it will cause the engine to overheat. In other words, if you see that the water temperature is too high or too low on the water thermometer, it is possible that the thermostat is out of order.
It is also very simple to judge whether the thermostat is out of order. When the car is cooling, it can be judged by touching the temperature of the water pipe with your hand. First, start the car. After a few minutes, you can touch the upper and lower tubes again. If the temperature of the upper and lower water pipes is different, it means that the thermostat is out of order and needs maintenance.
