Fengcheng City, a county-level city in Jiangxi Province, is a pilot city directly under the provincial administration of Jiangxi Province.
Fengcheng City is located at 27°42'-28°26' north latitude and 115°25'-116°26' east longitude. It is located in the middle of Jiangxi Province, in the middle and lower reaches of the Gan River, and at the southern end of the Poyang Lake Basin. It borders Fuzhou Linchuan District and Nanchang Jinxian County to the east, Fuzhou Chongren County, Le'an County and Ji'an Xingan County to the south, Yichun Zhangshu City and Gao'an City to the west, and Nanchang Xinjian District and Nanchang County to the north. The whole territory is 70.5 kilometers long from north to south and 74 kilometers wide from east to west.
The total area of the city is 2,845.07 square kilometers. The city is 74.4 kilometers long from north to south and 57.5 kilometers wide from east to west. The permanent population is 1.4877 million (at the end of 2014), most of which are Han Jiangyou ethnic groups. Fengcheng City borders Linchuan District and Jinxian County to the east, Chongren County, Le'an County and Xingan County to the south, Zhangshu City and Gao'an City to the west, and Xinjian District and Nanchang County to the north.
Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railway, Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Shanghai-Kunming Expressway, Jiangxi-Guangdong Expressway, 105 National Highway, and the golden waterway of Ganjiang River pass through it. There are Fengcheng Mining Bureau, a large national unified coal mine, and Fengcheng Power Plant, a large thermal power plant in Jiangnan.
In October 1988, the State Council approved the removal of counties and establishment of cities. Fengcheng City is one of the more powerful counties and cities in Jiangxi. Fengcheng City is one of the top 100 counties and cities in the country's county economy and has the reputation of the hometown of longevity in China.
