Jining Zhugan Lane, that's not a lane, that's a street!

Text/Old Time Story

Zhugan Lane is actually not an alley, but a bustling street in Jining, an ancient city specializing in bamboo industry. It is located at the corner of the ancient canal extending southeast and northwest. It is about 10 meter long and 10 meter wide. It is paved with bluestone, bright and clean, with pagodas and shops on both sides. Regardless of the size of the facade, the front is a mansion with gray tiles and colorful columns, which is antique. The bustling Jishikou, which is connected to the west, is just like Guhuai Street, with a lot of traffic. To the east is a small door connected with the bustling land and water wharf. With convenient transportation and dense population, it is a bustling street with bamboo products as the main industry.

Legend has it that Zhugan Lane was originally a very ordinary alley, with hundreds of families who were neither poor nor rich. Later, a clever and skilled Jiangnan master came. At first glance, he decided that the alley was a treasure trove of geomantic omen, so he chose a place to build a house, settled down and opened a small bamboo workshop. Because of good management, I have no worries about food and clothing for several years. Both teachers and fathers are kind and open-minded. In order to expand their business, they recruit apprentices and teach them unique skills. After students finish their studies, they start their own businesses and carefully manage their own small shops. Business is booming and financial resources are rolling in. Later, apprentices also recruited apprentices from the first floor to the tenth floor. What used to be an ordinary alley has become a street specializing in bamboo industry. Since then, this alley has been named Zhugan Lane.

Speaking of bamboo pole lane, it can really be said that it is a veritable bamboo processing community and a famous sales city. People in Zhugan Lane are all skilled craftsmen, holding a bamboo in their hands, and they can weave all kinds of bamboo wares in the blink of an eye. As big as doors, windows, baskets, baskets, as small as sticks, bowls, birdcages, phoenix kites, as big as tin foil poles and scaffolding, as well as exquisite bamboo carvings, bonsai and bamboo tube fans. These beautiful and practical bamboo wares have attracted people in urban and rural areas, and the alley is really full of customers all day long, which is very lively.

People in the alley run very well. As soon as the Spring Festival is over, they will collect enough money and stand by the river to wait for the arrival of the South China Air Fleet. As soon as the ship docked at the small pier, they rushed forward, bought the best bamboo from all walks of life, carried it on their shoulders and invited it home. Once, the yard was piled up like a mountain, and even the thumbtacks were empty. From a distance, the alley has become a world of bamboo. As soon as the people in the alley had bamboo, they immediately created a miracle on earth. They are full of energy and spirit, and they are working hard to compile around the clock. Once, in the lower house of the mansion, brand-new bamboo utensils were displayed in front of people. As soon as Chun Xue was rebuilt, fishermen from Nansi Lake and Beisi Lake ran along the canal and rushed to the alley. They bought enough bamboo paper, bamboo poles, bamboo baskets, bamboo cages, bamboo baskets and "bamboo skewers" for one year, and happily carried them home, hoping to sink into the water.

Farmers from all directions also drove oxen into alleys, bought beautiful and practical bamboo doors and windows, tables and chairs, beds, baskets, and even children's birdcages and kites to take home to dress up their lives. When the neem flower first bloomed, people from urban and rural areas flocked to the alley, selected the mats, colorful curtains, recliners, umbrellas, fans, pillows and scaffolding they wanted, and hurried home to spend a refreshing and long summer. With the autumn wind, villagers all over the country can't wait to break into the alleys, carefully purchase baskets, baskets, shoulder poles, brooms, laundry baskets, rakes and hoards, and take them home to capture a delicious and heavy autumn.

At the beginning of the twelfth lunar month, people in four cities and eight cities urged donkeys to drive cars and carry loads, and walked in the alleys in droves, carefully buying Chinese New Year floats, bamboo horses, lanterns, colored balls, flower baskets, laundry baskets and steamers, and once pulled them back, they had a warm and peaceful Spring Festival. As for those light and beautiful round fans, small and exquisite pen holders, exquisite bamboo carving bonsai, children's bamboo horses, flower baskets, bamboo root rice bowls, prayer beads in the hands of Buddhists, and bamboo boxes and cabinets of literati, you can buy them if you want, regardless of spring and autumn. During the day, the alleys are crowded with traffic, and at night, the alleys are crowded with people, and they are full of steam and vitality all year round. Alleys are the world of bamboo products, the world where craftsmen can display their ambitions, the source of a better life and the symbol of civilization. I love alleys, which give me a picturesque life.
