Why is Puyang called Dragon Township?
Because in 1986, a precious cultural relic, a clam-shaped dragon pattern, dating back more than 6,400 years, was unearthed in Puyang, which pushed the 5,000-year history of civilization of the Chinese nation forward by more than 1,400 years. In 2000, it was hailed as "China's No. 1 Dragon" by the archaeological circles at home and abroad. Therefore, the Chinese Yanhuang Culture Research Association named Puyang "Dragon Township" accordingly.
What was discovered at that time was the Yangshao Cultural Site. After excavation, three sets of dragon and tiger patterns made of clam shells were unearthed, as well as a large number of production and daily utensils. The three sets of dragon and tiger patterns caused a sensation at home and abroad, and attracted long-term attention from academic circles.
