The meat production rate of pure Boer goat is about 50%, and after crossing with local sheep, the meat production rate of the first generation hybrid sheep is over 40%.

So it depends on the variety: usually the meat yield of a live sheep is 46-50%.

The feeding environment also plays an important role in the nutrition of mutton taste. Living in a comfortable environment and living in a messy environment, the growth speed, physical condition and meat taste will definitely be different, but many sheep farmers do not realize the importance of the feeding environment. If we want to improve the quality of mutton, sheep farmers should improve the structure of sheephouses and the feeding environment according to the living habits of mutton sheep and carry out protective feeding.

1, improve the structure of the sheephouse

The best sheep house structure is the building structure, or the elevated bed sheep house, so that mutton sheep can stay away from feces, and ordinary sheep houses can be paved with sheep beds. Plastic sheep bed is the best material, followed by wood and cement sheep bed, and bamboo sheep bed is the worst. At the same time, the sheephouse should be watertight, damp and well ventilated but not air-leaking.

2. Improve the feeding environment

The manure in the sheepfold must be cleaned in time, and the sheepfold should be disinfected regularly to be hygienic and clean; Feeding tanks and water tanks should be cleaned regularly to prevent pathogenic bacteria from breeding in them and prevent mutton sheep from eating or drinking spoiled leftovers and water, which will affect their feeding, growth and mutton quality; Strengthen ventilation and reduce the humidity and toxic and harmful gas content in the sheephouse.

3. Carry out protective feeding.

Some trees or vines can be planted around the sheepfold. In addition, a sunshade can be built in summer and a greenhouse can be built in winter to improve the microclimate in the sheepfold, make it warm in winter and cool in summer, and improve the quality of mutton. More mosquitoes in summer will affect the normal rest, feeding and growth of mutton sheep. Installing screen windows on the doors and windows of the sheep house and placing mosquito killer and fly paper in the sheep house can avoid mosquito nuisance to the mutton sheep as much as possible, and also improve the quality of mutton to a certain extent.
