The history of Mixi Village in Ruijin, Jiangxi
Mixi Village, Jiubao Town, Ruijin City, is one of the first batch of provincial-level historical and cultural villages in Jiangxi Province.
As early as the Sui and Tang Dynasties, there were two surnames of Wang and Song living in Mixi Village. In the Southern Song Dynasty, the ancestors of the Luo family moved here from Dabu, Ningdu. A lineage of the Luo family whose ideas are all self-contained. The ancestors of the Luo family named the village Mixi because there was a Mi village and Mi water there. So far, there are nearly 600 households with the surname Luo and more than 3,700 people in the village. They are mainly distributed in the Luowu area and develop from east to west with Luowu as the central axis. Most of the houses face north and south, facing the water mouth in the south. It is said that this is the result of the ancestors "building houses on the mountains and forming villages by the water", which has the tendency of "backing the mountains and facing the water, carrying the yin and embracing the yang". Four ancient "Feng Shui towers" were built on the top of the mountain in the distance in the four directions of east, south, west and north, like four barriers, tightly protecting Mixi Village.
There are nearly a hundred ancient houses of various sizes in Mixi, most of which were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The main large-scale ones include the Luo Family Ancestral Hall, the Luo Ying Wengong Ancestral Hall, the Yingzong Ancestral Hall, and the Shiquan Ancestral Hall. , Chunfu Temple, Gaoze Temple, Mifeng Taigong Temple and more than a dozen places, generally covering an area of about three to four hundred square meters. Private halls and houses of different sizes are scattered in the village like stars over the moon. Most of them are brick and wood structures. There are also some ancestral halls made entirely of wood. Most of the roofs are on the top of a mountain or on the top of a hill with water on both sides. It is in the style of a hard top, with many compartments having tiled walls and protruding eaves, with their heads raised and flying, which is quite dynamic.
The era when Mixi really had humanistic content was in the Luotaishan era during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, three hundred years after its founding. From this era, Mixi Village became famous. The famous creator of the figurines is Luo Yougao (1733-1779), named Taishan. In the 30th year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1765), although he failed the imperial examination twice, his outstanding articles spread throughout the country and influenced later generations. He is almost an all-rounder "who is good at boxing and fencing; he is also good at classical literature and diction, and is also good at psychology. He has devoted his life to studying Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, and has extremely profound attainments." In terms of literature, Luo Yougao is good at prose, which not only draws on the strengths of other writers, but also stands out as his own. After Taishan died of illness in the 44th year of Qianlong's reign and was buried in his hometown, "Taishan Garden" and "Taishan School" were built in Mixi to commemorate him. It can be said that the appearance of this historical celebrity in Taishan made the Luo people proud and devoted their efforts to develop their literary style. In the history of Mixi, there were many local officials and the literary style flourished, which started in the Qianlong year.
