Lanzining, a native of Milan, Italy, received painting training when he was young. Later, he joined the Jesuits affiliated with European Christianity. In the 15th year of Kangxi, he came to China as a missionary and was named Ranzining. He entered the DPRK in the last years of Kangxi and began China's career as a court artist for decades.

Ran Zining painted many historical paintings representing important events at that time and many portraits of people, animals and flowers and birds for Emperor China, which was highly appreciated by Emperor Kangxi, Emperor Yongzheng and Emperor Qianlong. He also introduced the European focus perspective painting to China, and assisted Xirao Nian, a China scholar, to complete the book "Vision" describing this painting, which became an important messenger of East-West communication at that time. In the thirty-first year of Qianlong, Lang Shining died at the age of seventy-eight.
