Why is Qingjian called Kuanzhou?
Qingjian was called Kuanzhou in ancient times. It was named after digging 150 feet into the ground to dig out clear spring water. It is located on the west bank of the Shaanxi-Shanxi Gorge of the Yellow River. It is a strategic place guarding Yan'an and Guanzhong. Qingjian County is under the jurisdiction of Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. In March 2019, it was listed in the first batch of counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. On February 27, 2020, with the consent of the Shaanxi Provincial Government, Qingjian County officially exited the list of poverty-stricken counties.
Climate of Qingjian County
Qingjian County belongs to the warm temperate continental monsoon semi-arid climate zone. It is characterized by four distinct seasons. In spring, the warm air mass gradually strengthens and moves northward, with temperatures getting higher and precipitation increasing.
The temperature varies greatly from day to day and is prone to cold waves, frost and strong winds. In summer, affected by the subtropical high pressure, rainfall is concentrated, mostly thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds. Rainfall distribution is extremely uneven. Continuous rainy weather often occurs in early autumn. In winter, controlled and invaded by strong Siberian cold air, the climate is cold and dry, with very little precipitation.
The average annual temperature is 9.6°C. The average temperature in January is -6.8°C, the average temperature in July is 23.8°C, the annual average maximum temperature is 16.5°C, the annual extreme high temperature is 38.1°C, the annual average minimum temperature is 3.7°C, and the annual extreme low temperature is -22.6°C.
The average annual precipitation is 500 mm, the maximum precipitation is 735.3 mm (1964), and the minimum precipitation is 254.7 mm. Rainfall is mainly concentrated from June to August, accounting for about 80% of the total annual precipitation.
