Xu Gousan is said to have lived in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It is said that he is from Zhengchang, Xiantao City, Hubei Province, and some people say that he is from Changchongkou. Xu Gousan's stories are usually clever, witty and funny. In addition, the story itself reflects the desire of the broad masses of the people to pursue truth, goodness and beauty and to lash out at the false, evil and ugly, so it is deeply loved, respected and praised by the broad masses of the people. Therefore, the story of Xu Gousan spread in Xiantao and surrounding counties and cities for a long time and in a wide range, which is unmatched by other general folklore. According to rough statistics, there are about 500 or 600 stories about Xu Gousan in written and oral circulation. Now it has been selected as the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in Xiantao City.

These stories can be roughly divided into three categories:

Third, help the poor. If anyone has no money for treatment due to illness or has no life, Xu Gousan will do everything possible to help these people solve their difficulties.

Generally speaking, Xu Gousan's stories mainly focus on promoting righteousness and fighting evil, and become the embodiment of people's ideals and wisdom, so they have been circulated among the people for a long time.
