Historical evolution of Shuixi Town

It is named after Shuixi Street where it is located. On the eve of liberation, it belonged to Shuixi Township, a district directly under Gan County. At the beginning of liberation, it belonged to Shuixi Township, Hele Township and Chizhu Township in Hubian District, Gan County. On May 20, 1950, Shuixi Township was transferred from Gan County to Ganzhou City and became a suburb. It belonged to the fifth district in 1951, to the direct township in 1952, and to the third district in 1953. In 1956, it belonged to the West Branch Office and later to the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Conservancy Bureau. It was restored to the suburbs in 1957 and merged into Zhanggong Township (also known as the suburban commune) in 1958. In 1959, Zhanggong Township was withdrawn and changed to Shuixi Township (commune), and the Tongtianyan, Chizhu, and Lian three brigades were included from Gan County. In the winter of 1968, it merged with Shuidong, Baiyun and Nanqiao communes to establish suburban communes. In 1972, it was renamed Shuixi Commune.

In April 1984, it was changed to Shuixi Township. In 1990, it was adjusted to the current zoning. In 1997, it covered an area of 62.3 square kilometers and had a population of 29,000. It governed 11 administrative villages including Shuixi, Tongtianyan, Liansan, Chizhu, Luobian, Huangsha, Baitian, Hele, Shizhu, Shipu, and Lingyuan. There are 5 neighborhood committees in Lingtou, Shajiao, Gannan Material Factory, Jiangxi DC Motor Factory, and Gannan Machinery General Factory. The township government is located in Shuishi West Street, 1.2 kilometers away from the city government. On December 8, 2000, Shuixi Township was abolished, Shuixi Town was established, and the town government moved to Chizhuling (Ganminzi [2000] Approval No. 369).
