The terrain of Suining County consists of a vast plain in the south and a small number of hills in the north and west. Suining County has a warm temperate and slightly maritime monsoon climate, with an average annual temperature of about 14°C, an average annual precipitation of 922.1mm, an average annual sunshine of 2393.3 hours, and a frost-free period of 214 days.

The inland waterway in Suining County is closely connected to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and the Xusha River (Shaji Town) (Shaji Bridge) and Xuhong River lead directly to Hongze Lake. [7] The 33.8-kilometer channel expansion and embankment greening of the Xuhong River have been fully completed. The reconstruction of navigation bridges and the construction of 10-million-ton port terminals have been accelerated. The river has reached the third-level waterway standard, and the tonnage of passing ships has reached 1,000-ton level.
