The name Ruzhou has a long history and is also related to the beautiful legend of the goddess Nuwa.
The name Ruzhou has a long history. Ruzhou got its name from Rushui, and was originally called Ruhai and Rufen. Tracing back to its origins, it has a connection with the beautiful goddess Nuwa, and it comes from the fiefdom of Nuwa - the Kingdom of Women.
"Shiben: Surnames and Surnames" (Supplementary Notes to the Collection of Zhang Shuyi) says: "For the female surname, the emperor granted his younger brother Wa to the Yang of Ru River, and later became the emperor, so he was called the queen."
According to legend, Nuwa was born in Fangshan, adjacent to Yuzhou, and lived in the Dafeng Kingdom (tribal alliance) founded by Leizu. When she became an adult, she married her sister to Fuxi. After the death of Leizu, Fuxi was elected as the king of Dafeng Kingdom and ascended to the throne of God.
Nuwa was smart, resolute, and outstanding in talent and appearance. She was granted the title of "Nuwa Kingdom" by Emperor Fuxi in the Yang of Ru River and established the "Nuwa Kingdom" (recorded as the Women's Kingdom in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas"). Here Nuwa refined stones to mend the sky and kneaded soil to create humans. Her merits were immeasurable and otherworldly, and she led the people to live a happy life.
After Fuxi's death, Nuwa was elected as the emperor because of her outstanding achievements. She was called the queen and the goddess of the East.
There are many primitive civilization village sites from the Nuwa period. Around Dayu in Ruzhou there are many historical sites such as Tianhuang Mountain (i.e. Xiaohongzhai Mountain), Taiji Summit, Fuxi Cave, Nuwa Palace, Nuwa Stone, Nuwa Temple, etc., as well as many beautiful legends about Fuxi and Nuwa.
Ruzhou has developed and grown in historical changes, and its name has changed several times. In ancient times, it was the Nuwa Kingdom, also known as the Kingdom of Women; during the Yao and Shun eras, it was Ruhai, also known as the Nuhai; when Xia Yu dug Yique, the Ruhai dried up and became the mainland, which was originally called Rufen.
Ruzhou has been a county and state government agency for generations. It has a history of more than 1,400 years since the establishment of Ruzhou in the Sui Dynasty in 606 AD. In 1913, Ruzhou was renamed Linru County, and in 1988 it was renamed Linru County. Ruzhou City.
