The allusions and legends of Xuanwu Lake

The history of Xuanwu Lake can be traced back to the Pre-Qin period more than 2,220 years ago.

Xuanwu Lake was called Sangbo in ancient times. It was originally just a swamp wetland formed by faults. The lake water came from the northern foot of Zhongshan Mountain.

After Qin Shihuang destroyed Chu, Jinling was renamed Moling County, and Xuanwu Lake was renamed Moling Lake. Because Jiang Ziwen, the captain of Moling during the Han Dynasty, was buried by the lake, Sun Quan during the Wu Dynasty wanted to avoid the name taboo of his grandfather Sun Zhong, so he named it "Jiang". Linghu".

Sun Quan, King of Wu, diverted water into the back lake of the palace garden, and Xuanwu Lake began to take on the shape of a lake.

Because Xuanwu Lake is located to the north of Yanque Lake and Miyagi City, it is also called "Back Lake" or "North Lake".

[2]

During the Six Dynasties, Xuanwu Lake was a recreational place for feudal emperors.

After the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Xuanwu Lake gradually declined as the capital moved north.

In the eighth year of Xining in the Song Dynasty (1075), Wang Anshi, Yin of Jiangning Prefecture, promised Song Shenzong to get the land from the lake. As a result, Xuanwu Lake disappeared for more than 200 years. After the fifth year of Dade in the Yuan Dynasty (1301), After two dredging operations in the third year of Zheng (1343), Xuanwu Lake reappeared on the map of Nanjing.

In the 14th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1381), Zhu Yuanzhang selected Xuanwu Lake as the storage place for the Yellow Records of the Central Government of the Ming Dynasty, and built the Houhu Lake Yellow Records Library (equivalent to the current Central Archives).

After the fall of the Ming Dynasty, Xuanwu Lake was reopened to the outside world. Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty both visited here and left poems.

After liberation, the People's Government carried out large-scale expansion and reconstruction of Xuanwu Lake, moved out the lake residents, planted flowers and plants, added more scenic spots, and gave it a completely new look.

At the end of 2005, the scenic spot won the title of national AAAA tourist area.

Xuanwu Lake Park has been open to the public free of charge since October 1, 2010.

The Legend of Xuanwu Lake

Nanjing Xuanwu Lake was first called Hou Lake. How did it later change its name to Xuanwu Lake? According to legend, during the period of Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties, there was a severe drought, and the bottom of the lake turned upside down and the land cracked.

From the emperor to the common people, everyone burned incense and prayed to the Buddha, but the Dragon King would not drop a drop of rain.

Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty had a minister named Jiang Zuo who was in charge of farming and mulberry farming. Seeing that the crops were not harvested, he was so anxious that he could not eat or sleep all day long.

Jiang Zuo has an 18-year-old daughter named Jiang Yu. She is a sign of intelligence. When she sees her father sighing, she also becomes anxious.

On the day of the Lake Temple, Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty summoned the civil and military ministers into the palace and said: "Now that a great disaster is approaching, whoever can get rid of the drought insects will be given a third rank by me."

"No one from the civil and military officials answered.

At this time, a treacherous minister named Shi Guo said: "Your Majesty, it is not difficult to get rid of drought insects.

"What does it mean that it is not difficult?" Emperor Wen of Song Dynasty asked.

Shi Gu handed over a memorial and said: "Your Majesty, I had a dream at night. The words in the dream have been written on the fold. Please read it." Emperor Wen opened the memorial and looked at it. Twenty words were written on it. The words: "The Dragon King is mourning in his palace, and he is looking for beauty all over the world. If he wants to avoid drought, he must offer jade." The emperor read it once and couldn't understand it, so he asked Shi Guo: "Offer jade, how can I offer jade?" Where is this jade?" Shi Guo pointed to Jiang Zuo: "The jade is in Jiang's house." When Jiang Zuo heard this, he was shocked and thought: "Shi Guo, Shi Guo, you are so poisonous. , actually brought trouble to my daughter!"

It turns out that two years ago, Shi Fu asked someone to arrange a matchmaking for his son Shi Buquan, and wanted Jiang Yu to be his wife, but Jiang Zuo knew Shi Buquan's personality. , didn't agree, who knew that he had offended Shi Gui, so he came to take revenge today.

"Huh?" Emperor Wen of Song Dynasty still didn't understand what Shi Gua meant.

Shi Guo then said: "Your Majesty, in three days it will be the birthday of the Dragon King of the East China Sea. On that day, the jade will be sent to the North Lake and burned with sandalwood. The soul of the jade will enter the East China Sea. The Dragon King will take the jade and marry him. .

If the dragon is happy, it will bring water.

Isn’t it difficult to get rid of drought insects? " Emperor Wen of Song Dynasty nodded, turned to Jiang Zuo and said, "Jiang Aiqing, You can save the people of the world by sacrificing a piece of jade, so it’s settled.

"This, ah..." Without waiting for Jiang Zuo to agree, Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty asked Shi Gu to prepare a high platform. The Queen of Heaven went to Beihu to offer sacrifices to jade and pray for rain.

When Jiang Zuo returned home, he was as worried as a wooden man.

After his daughter asked again and again, Jiang Zuo finally told the truth about Shi Guo's frame-up.

When Jiang Yu heard this, she was not anxious. Instead, she comforted her father: "Don't worry, my daughter has her own way to deal with it.

" Jiang Zuo asked her what she could do, but she smiled and didn't answer. , I just called my dad to the Xuanwu Lake Park painting and went to Beihu to watch the excitement three days later.

At noon three days later, the people in Jiankang City flocked to the lake to watch the emperor pay homage to the rain.

Jiang Zuo and his daughter, Shi Guo and his son also arrived.

At three quarters of noon, Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty stood on the high platform, facing the North Lake and read loudly: "I, the Lord of the East, know that the Dragon King has come to the newly mourned palace. He has been looking for beauties everywhere for several months, so that There is a severe drought in the Eastern Territory.

I have recently found beautiful jade and presented it to the Dragon King to pray for heavy rain to protect the lives of the people in the Eastern Territory..." As soon as Shi Guo waited for the emperor to finish his thoughts, he walked to Jiang Zuo with a fierce expression. , dragged Jiang Yu out, escorted him to the altar, and said to the emperor: "Long live the jade, the jade has been brought, you can burn incense and offer sacrifices to it."

Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty lit the fire without even looking at it. Burning sandalwood on the high platform.

When Shi Gu and his son were about to push Jiang Yu into the lake, Jiang Yu suddenly shouted: "Stop! I have something to say to Long Live!" Upon hearing this, Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty lowered his head and looked down the stage. A pink-colored girl was being escorted, and she said, "If you have anything to say, just say it.

" Jiang Yu knelt down in front of the stage: "Long live, I want to hear Mr. Shi's Twenty-Cross Memorial. < /p>

"Yes.

" Emperor Wen of Song Dynasty read it loudly.

"Oh, the Dragon King wants jade, not a person. The little girl brought a piece of beautiful Khotan jade and is willing to donate it.

" Jiang Yu said calmly.

Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty saw Jiang Yuman's affectionate expression and heard what she said was reasonable. He nodded and said, "Jade is a stone, and offering jade is of course a precious stone!" Shi Gu was anxious and quickly interrupted: "Long live it." , 'The Dragon King was buried in Xuanwu Lake Park - Jiangyu Sculpture Palace, looking for beauty from all over the world', of course it refers to people! ..." "Long live, the little girl also dreamed of the twenty-digit confession last night."

Jiang Yu said while presenting a fold.

"Oh," the emperor quickly opened it and took a look. The booklet read: "The Dragon King must offer beautiful jade if he is looking for beauty. Two stones refer to beautiful jade, and Beihu fills his eyes.

" Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty asked: "Who are the two stones?" Jiang Yu pointed at Shi Gua and his son: "They are the two of them!" Shi Gua's face turned pale with anxiety: "Long live, don't listen to this woman's nonsense, she clearly wants to frame us, father and son!" Emperor Wen of Song Dynasty had no idea.

"Long live, little girl, there is the most reasonable way.

"Jiang Yu said: "The lake has dried up now. The father and son of the Shi family and I entered the lake from one side each. He offered beautiful jade. I will sacrifice my life to the Dragon King's choice.

" After saying this, the people on both sides nodded in praise, and Emperor Wen of Song Dynasty agreed.

He opened the wooden box, and there was indeed a piece of smooth and transparent jade inside. He asked Shi Gu and his son to carry the wooden box down to the lake. Shi Gu and his son had to walk slowly into the North Lake step by step.

Jiang Yu also straightened his clothes and walked towards the center of the lake from the other side.

Map of Xuanwu Lake Park At this time, although the North Lake was dry and only a little shallow water remained in the center of the lake, when Shi Gu and his son approached the center of the lake, their lower bodies were already soaked, and they finally reached the center of the lake. The two placed the wooden box on the small mound, opened the lid and hurried back.

Who would have expected that a black dragon suddenly sprang out from the center of the lake, opened its mouth, swallowed the piece of beautiful jade, and rose up to the sky, causing the sky to be filled with dark clouds. Shi Gu and his son were so frightened that their calves became weak, and even more He couldn't run any faster, so he looked up and saw that Jiang Yu had landed in the morning. The father and son were particularly anxious. At this time, the black dragon opened its mouth in the sky, spit out the piece of beautiful jade, and smashed it into the center of the lake, opening a big hole in the North Lake. The water surged out, and white waves surged in an instant, drowning the Shi family father and son until they could no longer see their shadows.

The land of Jinling that has been working for several months is now in good weather again.

Emperor Wen of the Song Dynasty called North Lake Black Dragon Lake because he saw a black dragon spitting jade. Because "Xuan" means "black" and "north", it was later changed to Xuanwu Lake.

The Legend of Mao Laoren Temple

There is an exhibition hall in Liangzhou, Xuanwu Lake.

Earlier, this place was called Lake Temple.

It would be called Old Man Mao Temple sooner.

According to the elders, Old Man Mao was an old fisherman in the early Ming Dynasty. He had been fishing on Xuanwu Lake and was a lonely old man.

One day, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang of the Ming Dynasty was troubled about not finding a good place to build the "Imperial Register Library". A Feng Shui master suggested: "Xuanwu Lake is adjacent to Shicheng in the west, Zhongshan in the east, and Zhongshan in the south. Fuzhou, Beiping Mansion is a geomantic treasure, and it would be perfect to build the Imperial Register Library in the lake.

When Zhu Yuanzhang heard this, he said yes.

A counselor asked: "What to do with the fishermen on the lake?" Zhu Yuanzhang waved his hand: "Drive them all away!" The matter was settled.

When the news reached the ears of the fishermen, they were all furious.

Finally, everyone recommended Old Man Mao to talk to Zhu Yuanzhang.

After arriving at the palace from Xuanwu Lake Park, seeing the emperor, Old Man Mao said: "There are too many rats in Xuanwu Lake, swarming in groups.

They chewed up clothes and stole After eating the grain and destroying the house, the emperor wants to build the imperial register warehouse. Aren't you afraid that the imperial register storehouse will be bitten by rats? "Zhu Yuanzhang was dumbfounded when he heard this, and asked quickly: "Mr. Mao, what do you think about this?" Change a place!" Zhu Yuanzhang was reluctant and thought in his mind: "Rates are afraid of cats. If they raise cats..." Suddenly, he rolled his eyes and thought to himself, the old man Mao in front of him, "mao" and "cat" are the same pronunciation, he wants to subjugate the mouse. Can come in handy.

He smiled "Hehe": "Old Man Mao, you have fished all your life and worked so hard that you have never had a good day. Now I will make you the director of the Imperial Register.

" Old Man Mao was startled and thought: You, Zhu Mazi, are so cunning. You want to use my hand to drive away the villagers, so that you won't be fooled.

He said repeatedly: "No, no, no, I can't do it!" Zhu Yuanzhang snorted and ignored him.

The counselor came over and said: "Old man, the emperor is Chrysostom. It has been decided and cannot be changed."

Old Man Mao was very angry and insisted: "No, no!" "Several warriors came up and took Old Man Mao away.

The next day, a group of people entered Xuanwu Lake.

In the blink of an eye, there was a sea of fire, the adults cried, the children shouted...

On the third day, the construction of the Imperial Records Library began. Because Old Man Mao refused to be the director, he was locked in an empty room under the house. After more than ten days, he starved to death.

The Imperial Register Library was about to be completed. Zhu Yuanzhang led the civil and military ministers to inspect and wanted to summon Old Man Mao.

As soon as he heard that Old Man Mao was dead, he couldn't bear it, so he said to his subordinates: "Let's build a temple of Old Man Mao here, and offer more incense, so that he can help me guard the lake. Rat.

"In this way, the old man Mao Temple was built here.

At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Qing soldiers invaded Nanjing and burned down the imperial register library and Mao LaoRen Temple.

Later, when it was rebuilt, a pair of copper hooks were dug out in front of the temple, which was said to be Old Man Mao's tent hook.

Someone dug a well where the copper hook was dug out, and carved the two seal characters "Bronze Hook" on the well railing.

This copper hook well has been preserved to this day.
