In aviation meteorological observation equipment, besides the same equipment as ordinary meteorological observation, there is also a special automatic meteorological observation system (AWOS), which is used to obtain all kinds of meteorological elements around the runway and extension lines and other meteorological conditions related to aviation flight safety in real time, including temperature, pressure, humidity, wind direction and speed, visibility, weather phenomena and runway visual range specially needed by aviation, that is, at the center line of the runway, pilots on the plane can see signs or runway side lights.

High-altitude observation data are obtained by weather radar, wind profiler radar and meteorological satellite. Conventional weather radar can monitor thunderstorm, tornado, typhoon and other strong storm systems, and can monitor local strong convective weather such as rainstorm and hail. Advanced Doppler weather radar is generally installed near the airport. Besides the monitoring function of general weather radar, it can also monitor the wind field in precipitation clouds and the wind shear caused by strong convection such as gust front, downburst or tornado.

In addition, there is another observation method, which is to detect physical quantities such as wind, temperature and altitude in real time through airborne meteorological detectors and navigation systems, and record the meteorological data of the whole process of aircraft taking off, climbing, cruising flight and landing, and transmit them to users in real time through computer processing. This is a cooperative work with China Meteorological Bureau for many years-Aircraft Meteorological Data Download (AMDAR).
