The tower was built in the 30th year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1805) and is a Feng Shui tower. The original site was the Emperor's Temple in the Ming Dynasty, which was later destroyed by a fire. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, people raised funds to rebuild it. In the early Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, a back hall was built to house Bodhisattva Li Wang. In the 30th year of Daoguang's reign (1850), the West Pagoda was built, with two halls at the front and back, and a wing on the west side. The name was gradually changed to West Pagoda Temple. The west tower is a hexagonal five-story brick and wood building with a pavilion-style structure and is 15.5 meters high. The cornices are raised, the gourd top is raised from the ground, and it is antique. Each exterior wall at the bottom of the tower is 2.25 meters wide, with a circumference of 13.5 meters, and an area of about 30 square meters. You can climb to the top via a ladder, and you can reach the top by leaning on the railing. Looking out, you can have a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery along the river.
It is said that the West Tower was built by Wang Gan, a native of Li. Wang, nicknamed Wang Mazi, broke through a hundred pairs of shoes to raise funds for the construction of the tower; he broke five cars while transporting materials for the construction of the tower. He devoted himself to building pagodas and remained a bachelor for forty years, winning praise from the villagers. After building pagodas, he finally found a wife.
The architectural structure of the West Tower is unique. The wooden eaves of a mixed structure of brick and wood were replaced by short eaves of brick and tile structure. Although it imitates the pavilion style, it is not large in scale, and only the waist eaves are symbolically raised. It gives a feeling of more than solemnity but not enough lightness. The west tower is a beacon tower that suppresses Feng Shui, promotes literary style, and marks the tree.
