Kobayashi Sosaku was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan in 1875. He spent his childhood in the countryside. He was diligent and studious since he was a child, and graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School in 1897. Later, he devoted himself to education and served as a primary school teacher.
In 1903, Kobayashi Sosaku was appointed as the principal of Tsuruzaki Municipal Tsurasaki Elementary School in Oita Prefecture.
