When is the best time to plant gourds?

Gourds are divided into vegetable gourds and ornamental gourds according to different uses, also known as treasure gourds. However, the planting technology is similar, but there are differences in post-management and harvesting time. Gourd can usually be planted in spring and autumn of the year. Generally, spring planting depends on the temperature. In the north, sowing begins from late March to early April, which can be direct seeding or seedling transplanting. Autumn cultivation is usually carried out in the open air in August. Because autumn sowing is in the hot and rainy season, the seedlings grow and develop rapidly, so the row spacing of plants is larger than that of spring sowing.

Seed treatment. Before sowing, in order to ensure the germination rate, we should choose the full seeds of that year. The seeds should be scalded in water at 70℃ and stirred quickly. After the water temperature drops to 30℃, the seeds can be soaked for half a day, and then taken out for germination. When 80% of the seeds are white, you can sow.

Sow in time. Cucumber seedlings can be planted for 30-40 days when 3-4 real leaves grow. Planting is carried out in sunny morning or afternoon. Although planting in sunny days will wither to some extent, the ground temperature is relatively high. After planting, the seedlings will grow slowly and grow early, which is much shorter than rainy days. Before transplanting and planting, water the seedbed to prevent the root system from being damaged during transplanting, and it is best to transplant with soil.
