When are the fish season and cuttlefish season in Zhoushan fishing ground?
In early winter, the cold air in the north began to move southward frequently, the warm water in the open sea weakened and the cold water along the coast expanded. Hairtail once lived in the northern Yellow Sea and scattered outside the Yangtze River estuary. Due to the change of marine environment, hairtail migrates seasonally from north to south along Zhejiang offshore, forming hairtail fishing season in the waters near Zhoushan fishing ground. Zhoushan Fishing Ground has the longest fishing season in China, generally starting from beginning of winter and lasting about three months.
The cuttlefish flood season from long summer to light summer.
When summer comes every year, southeast winds begin to prevail on the sea near Zhoushan fishing ground. This southerly airflow from low latitudes will not only increase the temperature of seawater, but also make seawater flow from the southeast sea to the northwest island coast. This is the spawning period of squid, and their eggs are laid on rocks in the water. Coupled with the poor swimming ability of squid, they swim to the mountain side with the current (Zhoushan Islands are actually some mountains in the sea), forming the phenomenon of "squid rushing to the mountain". This time is the best time to catch squid. Local fishermen have noticed this phenomenon in their long-term fishing work and compiled it into a fishing proverb in vivid language: "In the southeast of the long summer, squid (cuttlefish) rushes to the mountains."
