When was celery introduced into China?
Celery belongs to Umbelliferae. There are two kinds of cress and celery, which have similar effects. Celery is the best medicine. Celery has a strong aroma, also known as "celery". Celery is sweet, cool and non-toxic. It has the effects of clearing away liver-fire, clearing lung-heat, relieving restlessness, cooling blood, stopping bleeding, lowering blood pressure and promoting diuresis.
It is generally believed that celery was introduced to China in the Han Dynasty. More than 2,000 years ago, celery was introduced to China through the Silk Road and Central Asia. The cultivation of celery in China began in the Han Dynasty, initially as an ornamental planting, and then gradually expanded the planting scope as an edible one. After constant variation and careful breeding, celery with China characteristics, slender petiole and height of 100cm was formed, which was two completely different varieties from foreign celery with wide petiole and short stubble.
cultivation techniques
1. Farming season
Celery can be planted for more than one season a year. Family small vegetable gardens are roughly divided into spring celery, summer celery, autumn celery and winter celery in the south. Spring celery needs to be raised indoors and planted about 20 days before the final frost; Celery cultivation in the open field in summer or direct seeding in spring; Autumn celery seedlings or direct seeding in summer; In the area where the lowest temperature is higher than 5℃, celery seedlings or direct seeding in summer and autumn can safely overwinter in the open field. In the north, celery cultivated on cultivated land in summer and autumn can be dug out after frost, planted in containers, placed on balconies or windowsills, and harvested in winter.
2. Soil preparation and fertilization
Celery likes fertilizer, and about 8 kilograms of decomposed farmyard manure is applied per square meter, which is turned into the soil and carefully prepared to make the soil fine and loose. Make a border 1 meter wide.
Cultivate seedlings
The emergence days of celery are 50~60 days, and it is more suitable to plant when there are 4~6 leaves. Celery is planted in a small area at home and raised in containers. Due to the high temperature in summer, seedling emergence is slow and irregular. After soaking seeds for 24 hours, they should be placed in the environment of 18~20℃ to accelerate germination. They can be placed next to the water tank, hung in the well, or placed on the water tank in the bathroom. It usually takes about 7 days to germinate. Put the nutrient soil into a container, water it and sow it. Sow about 3 grams of seeds per square meter, and cover the seeds with 0.8~ 1 cm of fine soil.
Transplant seedlings 1 time after true leaves appear in container sowing. Seedling raising in the open field is not transplanted between seedlings, and the spacing between seedlings is about 1.5 cm. When there are 2~3 leaves, sow for the second time, and the spacing between seedlings is about 3 cm. When there are 3~5 leaves in spring and the seedling height is about 10 cm, continuous low temperature should be avoided during planting and seedling raising to avoid bolting.
Step 4: Planting
Before sowing 1 day, water the seedbed and sow the seedlings at the same time. When planting, the selected seedlings should be healthy and disease-free, with the same size, and cannot be weak seedlings. Celery harvested once in China is planted with row spacing of 10~ 12 cm, with 2~3 seedlings per hole; The harvested plants are planted according to the row spacing of 25-30 cm and the plant spacing of15-25 cm.
Celery is harvested and planted according to the row spacing of 30-40 cm and the plant spacing of 20-30 cm, and planted in a single plant. The planting depth should be the same as that of the first few seedlings in the seedbed, exposing the heart leaves.
