Does Mulan really exist?
Real existence
Mulan is real. The story of Mulan is circulated in the folk song "Mulan Ci", and we can also see related works in movies, TV dramas, song and dance Henan Opera.
Mulan is a real person in history, and the spread of Mulan's story should be attributed to the folk song Mulan Ci, but Mulan's surname and native place are not recorded in the history books. Hua Mulan's deeds are shown in many literary works, such as movies, TV dramas, song and dance Henan operas, etc.
Xu Wei, a writer in Ming Dynasty, adapted Mulan Poetry into Female Mulan Joining the Army as Father. In the play, she calls herself "My surname is Hua Ming Mulan. When my ancestors went to the Western Han Dynasty, I lived in Wei County, Hebei Province. My father's name is Sangzhi and he has been practicing martial arts all his life. He was also a famous commander in the old days. " From then on, Mulan's father's name was Hua Arc, her sister's name was Hua Menglian, her brother's name was Hua Xiong and her mother's name was Hua Yuanshi.
"Female Mulan" in the Qing Dynasty also said: "Although Mulan is detailed in ancient Yuefu. According to the Ming Dynasty, there was a story about Han Zhen's daughter, which was similar to Mulan's story, so Wei changed it. Mulan is unknown, and the name of jacquard bright arc in the book and the marriage with Wang Lang were all invented by Wei. "
Zu Chongzhi's Biography of Historical Records of Huo Zhi and Li Kang's Biography of Historical Records of Huo Zhi all mentioned that Mulan was surnamed Hua. When Mulan's real name was Zhu, the Huangpi County Records in the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty said: "Mulan, the daughter of Zhu in this county, was born in the early Tang Dynasty. A fake man joined the army instead of his father, and her home is still at the foot of Mulan Mountain. "
Jiao also said in Shi Jiao Bi Cheng: "Mulan, the daughter of Zhu, takes the place of her father. Today, Huangpi County in Huangzhou is 70 miles north, namely Mulan County in Suiyuan. There are Mulan Mountain, the Shenlong Hall of the Shogunate and the Zhonglie Temple, which are enough to make up for the lack of Yuefu inscriptions. " However, there is a saying that Mulan is surnamed Wei, and there is also a saying that Mulan is surnamed Han.
The true information of Mulan
Real? The story of Mulan first appeared in the northern folk song Mulan Ci. After that, Bai Juyi praised Mulan who joined the army for her father in Du Mu's Magnolia in the Play and Mulan Temple. According to Song Taizong's geographical encyclopedia "Taiping Universe" and the four-year stone carving of Taiping Town Army in Xianbei Room discovered in 1980s, historians believe that Mulan does exist.
The date of birth and death of Mulan is unknown. Some people say that she is from the Sui Dynasty. When Emperor Yangdi became emperor, Turks invaded the frontier, and Mulan disguised herself as a man and joined the army instead of her father. She fought in the battlefield for many years and made many meritorious deeds. However, Mulan Ci is a folk song of the Northern Dynasty, and the Sui Dynasty was not established when the folk song was born, so this statement is not credible.
More people believe that Mulan came from the Northern Wei Dynasty. The Northern Wei Dynasty was a political power established by Xianbei people, and then fought with other ethnic minorities to unify the North. Khan mentioned in Mulan Ci is the title of the supreme ruler of ancient Rouran, Xianbei and other ethnic groups. "Montenegro" and "Yanshan" were the battlefields of the Northern Wei Dynasty and Rouran people. It can be seen that Mulan is a heroine of the Northern Wei Dynasty, which is more credible.
Where is your hometown? There are different opinions on the dispute over Mulan's hometown, especially in Bozhou, Anhui, Yucheng, Henan, Huangpi, Hubei and Yan 'an, Shaanxi.
Poems such as "Farewell to parents and stay in the Yellow River at dusk" and "Farewell to the Yellow River and go to Heishantou at dusk" in Mulan Ci describe Mulan's position and route when she went to war. Some experts have suggested that Yan 'an people still have the habit of crossing the Yellow River ferry from east to north when they go to Yanshan area. Moreover, the East City, South City, North City and West City mentioned in the poem are consistent with Yan 'an Street, so Mulan should be from Yan 'an.
However, in 1982, the historian Cao proposed that Mulan's hometown was now Yimeng, Inner Mongolia. In the war between Yinshan North and Rouran, she joined the army for her father. According to Taiping Universe, only Zhou, Qin, Han and Wei San made three expeditions. The host city is from Dingxian County, Hebei Province to xifengkou, and the West Road is from Anxi County, Gansu Province. Mulan Ci describes the middle way, that is, the road through Montenegro.
Montenegro is the Yinshan Mountain in the north of Kundulun Valley in Baotou today. It is about a day's journey from Yimeng to the Yellow River, and also a day's journey from the Yellow River to Yinshan Mountain in the north of Kundulun Valley, which is consistent with the time and place of Mulan's expedition in the speech.
Does Mulan really exist?
At present, the authenticity of Mulan is unknown, and it can't be said that it is completely fictional, but its prototype is still controversial. According to historical records, her hometown is Yucheng. For the character Mulan, we only found clues from the poem Mulan Ci, but this is only a folk story, and her surname has not been confirmed. Joining the army for her father can only be found in poetry.
This "Mulan Ci" belongs to Yuefu poetry collection. In addition, Mulan Ci was recorded in The Statue of General Zheng Xiaolie in Yuan Dynasty, and the story of Mulan joining the army was also recorded in The Name of General Zheng Xiaolie in Qing Dynasty. It is said that there was a heroine named Mulan in the Sui Dynasty who disguised herself as a man. In order to commemorate her, people built the Mulan Ancestral Temple in Yingguo Town, Yucheng County. During this period, it was rebuilt many times. In the Qing dynasty, the temple occupied an area of 10000 square meters, with statues of Mulan riding horses, murals carved on the walls and so on. Many of them have poems praising Mulan. If this is just a fictional folk story, no one will spend so much effort and production.
Then Yucheng County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province is called the hometown of Mulan, and many stations, shops and streets are named after Mulan.
