The best time to go to Mogao Grottoes
May to October is the best time to travel. Mogao grottoes are famous for murals and statues. They are very wonderful. Looking around the caves of Mogao Grottoes, there are paintings of Buddha statues, flying clouds, geisha music, fairies and so on everywhere. There are sitting statues as high as nine floors, and there are also small bodhisattvas of more than ten centimeters. They are numerous and have different shapes, which can be understood under the guidance of explanation. Taking a car ferry to the cave is not allowed to take pictures, and you will be restricted from visiting in bad weather such as rain, snow and sand.

No.96, Jiuceng Cave, early Tang Dynasty (6 18 ~ 705). This cave was excavated in the early Tang Dynasty. The giant Buddha in the cave is 35.5m high and12m wide between knees. It is the largest Buddha statue in the Mogao Grottoes.
The building in front of the cave is a nine-story building, named after its * * * nine floors. It used to be a four-story building. It was built in the late Tang Dynasty (874-879) and rebuilt in the early Song Dynasty (966). The nine-story building was built in 1935. It stands tall, with scattered eaves and teeth, and has become one of the symbols of the Mogao Grottoes.

The number of the third floor cave is 16 ~ 17, and 16 was built between the 5th year of the Tang Dynasty and Xian Tong (85 1 ~ 867). There are three wooden cornices in front of the cave, so it is commonly known as "three floors". It was built by Taoist Wang in the thirty-second year of Guangxu reign (1906). Taoist Wang discovered the Tibetan Sutra Cave on the north side of the tunnel in Cave 16, which was later numbered as Cave 17. So the three-story building is also one of the few caves in the cave.

The cave for storing scriptures in Mogao Grottoes is a very important discovery in the archaeological history of China. Most unearthed documents are written, and a few are engraved. About five-sixths of them are written in Chinese, and the others are in ancient Tibetan, Sanskrit, Qilu, Sogdian, Hehe, Qiuci and Hebrew. The contents of the literature are mainly Buddhist scriptures, in addition to Taoist scriptures, Confucian classics, novels, poems, historical records, cadastres, account books, calendars, deeds, letters, plays and so on. Many of them are unique, unique. These are of great historical data and scientific value to the study of the history of China and Central Asia, and thus form a discipline-Dunhuang studies, which focuses on the study of Tibetan scriptures and the art of Dunhuang grottoes.
