Xiao is China's surname. After the implementation of simplified Chinese characters in 1970s, all the meanings of the whole word "Xiao" were merged into "Xiao" (not just the surname). So all Xiao surnames were written as Xiao surnames, but it was very difficult to change their surnames because the two simplified characters were officially abolished, so many people did not change their surnames back to Xiao.

Xiao's family was originally Zishi. During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a general named Nangong Changwan in Song State. He was defeated and captured when attacking Lu State, and was imprisoned in the harem before returning to Song State for several months. To this end, Song Mingong made fun of him many times. Chang Wan became angry from embarrassment because he was moved. He once killed Gong Min in a drunken mood, and since then, he has made a childe swim as the monarch. Song Guoqun's son fled to Xiaoyi (now northwest of Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province).
Later, after Song Weizi killed Nangong Changwan and helped Gong Min's younger brother Yu Shuo succeed to the throne, an army with a high heart rate composed of royal disciples and followers became Duke Huan of Song. Duke Huan of Song sealed the big heart in Xiao, thinking it was a vassal, and established Xiao, calling it Xiao Jun and Xiao Shu Da Xin. In 597 BC, Xiao was destroyed by Chu, and later generations took the country as their surname, called Xiao, and Daxin was honored as the ancestor of Xiao by later generations.
