The legend of lotus
Under the seats of Buddha and Bodhisattva are lotus flowers. You must have heard many legends and stories about lotus flowers. The following are the legends of lotus that I have compiled for you. You are welcome to read them.
Part 1 of the Legend of the Lotus
According to legend, the lotus is the incarnation of Yu Ji, a beautiful maid beside the Queen Mother. When Yu Ji saw the two couples in the world, men farming and women weaving, she was very envious, so she was moved by her mortal heart. Accompanied by the daughter of the river god, she stole out of the heavenly palace and came to the bank of the West Lake in Hangzhou. The beautiful scenery of the West Lake made Yu Ji linger and play in the lake so passionately that she couldn't bear to leave until dawn. When the Queen Mother found out, she used a lotus throne to throw Yu Ji into the lake, and asked her to be driven into the mud, and she would never be able to go to the south again. From then on, a beautiful maid disappeared from the heavenly palace, and a kind of jade-skinned and watery flower appeared in the human world.
Lotus is a traditional Chinese flower. The flowers and leaves are delicate and delicate, and the fragrance of the flowers is overflowing, filling your heart and soul. He has the temperament to welcome the scorching sun without fear, and to emerge from the mud without being stained. Therefore, lotus is the embodiment of truth, goodness and beauty in people's minds, a harbinger of good fortune and prosperity, a holy and pure name in Buddhism, and the seed of friendship.
In the masterpiece of classical literature "A Dream of Red Mansions", it is said that Qingwen turned into a lotus fairy after her death. Jia Baoyu said in his death poem to Qingwen "Elegy of Lotus Daughter": "It is quality, then gold and jade" If it is a nature, then ice and snow cannot describe its purity; if it is a god, then the stars and sun cannot describe its essence; if it is an appearance, then the flowers and moon cannot describe its color. ?Although later generations of red scholars believe that this is not because the author used Yong Qingwen's name to praise the purity of Daiyu, but in any case, lotus is always associated with the daughter-like purity of ice and jade.
Since "Lotus" and "Lian" have the same pronunciation, there are many poems about lotus in ancient poems to express love. For example, "Xizhou Song" by Yuefu in the Southern Dynasties: "When picking lotus flowers in Nantang in autumn, the lotus flowers are more than human heads; I lower my head to pick up lotus seeds, which are as green as water." "Lotus seed" means "Lian Zi", "green" means "Qing". This is both real and fictitious writing, with semantic puns and homophonic pun rhetoric, expressing a woman's deep longing for the man she loves and the purity of her love. Jin's "Forty-Two Midnight Songs" No. 35: "The mist and dew hide the hibiscus, but the lotus cannot be distinguished clearly." ?The mist and dew hide the true face of the lotus, and the lotus leaves are visible but not very clear. This is also a method of using homophonic puns to describe a woman who vaguely feels that her man is in love with her.
The Legend of Lotus Part 2
The Lotus Mountain located in Chenghai is tall and tall with beautiful scenery. Halfway up the mountainside at the southern foot of Lianhua Mountain, there is a place called "Chen Jin Lane". This is not a street where people live, but a natural canyon surrounded by only rocks and terracotta soil.
?Chenjin Lane? is also called ?Tongjin Lane?. There is no grass growing all year round, and the terracotta is exposed, just like copper color, hence the name.
Legend has it that there was an official named Lin Jiancheng who was jealous of the outstanding people in Chaozhou and deliberately caused harm to destroy Chaozhou's feng shui. One day, he came to Lianhua Mountain and saw the beauty of the mountain and the red light on the main peak. He mistakenly thought it was a "candle to the sky". He thought to himself: Since ancient times, water and fire have been in conflict with each other. To extinguish this candle to the sky, you must pour it out with water. So he ordered the soldiers to dig the ground and dig a spring. Unexpectedly, if he didn't dig, he would have done it. Once he dug, he saw the mountains shaking and the ground shaking, and the wind and clouds suddenly changing. This frightened Superintendent Lin into panic and made the soldiers look at each other in confusion. In desperation, Lin Jiancheng threw the cinnabar pen he brought with him, and saw a brown trail split in the mountains. Lin Jiancheng fled with his followers along the trail.
"Tongjin Alley" was later called "Chenjin Alley", and it also has a story. According to legend, during the Southern Song Dynasty, Chen Diaoyan had 100,000 troops to fight against the Yuan soldiers in the Fujian and Guangdong areas. He set up a stronghold in Lianhua Mountain and sent his sister Chen Jinhua to garrison the fortress of Tongjin Lane. Since "Chen" and "Tong" have the same pronunciation as "Chao", her soldiers and local people called this long and narrow canyon "Chenjin Lane". Later, it became common practice and was written as "Chen Jinxiang".
The Legend of Lotus Part 3
At the junction of the northern end of Chenghai County and Raoping County, there is a Lotus Mountain with an altitude of more than 500 meters, with five towering peaks shaped like lotus flowers.
There is a fairy temple on the top of the mountain. Every year on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, "dreams come true" is a popular folk custom here. According to legend, the immortals in this temple can tell people their dreams and predict their fate. The Double Ninth Festival coincides with the birthday of the Immortal. It is said that this day is the most effective for realizing dreams. On the eve of the Double Ninth Festival, faithful men and women from all over the country bring incense and candles as offerings and climb the Lotus Mountain to divine their dreams and make their wishes come true.
People who climb mountains to realize their dreams must be sincere and sincere in order to get good dreams. Starting from the first day of the ninth lunar month, people should abstain from eating meat and vegetables, stop having sex, and purify themselves; before climbing a mountain on the eighth day of September, they must use well water and pomegranate branches to purify their bodies and wear new clothes. After climbing a mountain to worship the immortal, you need to sleep outdoors on the big rocks or on the hillside outside the temple that night. When you fall asleep, you will receive dreams from the immortal. When you get up in the morning, you will thank the immortal and return.
Dream omens are one of people’s original beliefs and are regarded as predictions before things happen or as a result. However, Chaoshan people have a very unique view of dreams. They often regard the scenes shown in dreams as riddles, like guessing riddles, and the predicted results need to be explained differently like the answers to riddles. For example, dreaming about picking up gold, silver, treasures and other things on the road is considered a bad thing; on the contrary, stepping on a lot of feces in a dream is considered to be a good thing. Due to this kind of mentality, these faithful men and women go to Xianweng Temple to realize their dreams. No matter what they dream about, they will make good guesses. The ineffectiveness is attributed to the lack of sincerity in the heart, thus making this folk custom popular for a long time.
People in Chenghai have always passed down the folk tale of "finding a needle in a haystack" as a story about how to realize the dream of Xianweng Temple. It is said that in the Xinmao year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1711), Chen Chunying, a talented scholar from Suwandu in Chengyi, was about to take the provincial examination. He was afraid that he would not find his talent, so he went to the Xianweng Temple on the Double Ninth Festival to realize his dream. In the dream, the Xianweng said: "If you pass this subject, just like Looking for a needle in a haystack. When Chunying woke up, she thought about it over and over again. She was disappointed and depressed, and wanted to change her mind and not go for the test. As the term of study was approaching, the scholars all thought that Chunying had learned a lot and it would be a pity to miss the opportunity, so they invited him to go with them, but Chunying had to reluctantly go.
When going to a provincial capital to take an exam, you will inevitably have to pack your luggage. When his virtuous wife was mending his clothes, she asked Chunying to fetch the needle inserted in the door leaf. This needle happened to be inserted into the word "Hai" on the door couplet "Han Chao" Su Hai. He suddenly understood the immortal's sign and jumped up with joy and said: "Good omen, good omen!"
