Why didn't Yuan Shikai step into Xiangcheng's hometown until his death in the second half of his life?

Yuan Shikai is also called Yuan Xiangcheng because of his ancestral home in Xiangcheng, Henan.

However, Xiangcheng is a sad place for Yuan Xiangcheng. Yuan Shikai never set foot in Xiangcheng again in his later life, and was buried in Anyang, Henan Province after his death.

China has always paid attention to the roots of fallen leaves, and it is natural that he should be buried in his ancestral grave after his death. So why did Yuan Shikai choose Anyang instead of being buried in his hometown?

(1) Why not be buried back in Xiangcheng?

Yuan Shikai was not buried back to his hometown because of family conflicts. Specifically, it is because Yuan Shikai and his brother Yuan Shidun have a bad relationship.

1, brothers turned against each other

Back to 1899, the Boxer Rebellion has begun to rise. Yuan Shikai was transferred to the governor of Shandong Province to be responsible for suppressing the boxer movement in Shandong Province. At this time, Yuan Shikai's second half-brother, Yuan Shidun, was an official in Jinan and was impeached for failing to suppress the Boxer Rebellion.

In fact, Yuan Shidun's impeachment is also related to Yuan Shikai. There are not many so-called red people, and Yuan Shikai's career has soared, causing political enemies to attack. Impeachment of Yuan Shidun is an important measure to bring down Yuan Shikai.

For his own career, Yuan Shikai chose to preserve his sanity and draw a clear line with Yuan Shidun. Yuan Shidun was still eagerly waiting for Yuan Shikai to put in a good word for him, but he waited for such a result. At this point, brothers turned against each other.

2. The storm of burying mother

Later, Yuan Shikai's mother died, and Yuan Shikai returned to his hometown in Xiangcheng with his coffin. However, Yuan Shidun was the head of the Yuan family at this time.

Thinking of the death of his younger brother, Yuan Shidun was angry that Yuan Shikai's mother was not the first wife and refused to bury her in the ancestral grave.

Although Yuan Shikai was a government official at that time, Yuan Shidun was the head of Yuan Jiazhen. Yuan Shidun's toughness made Yuan Shikai helpless. To this end, Yuan Shikai even knelt down to Yuan Shidun in order to bury his mother in front of Yuan Jiazu's grave. Yuan Shidun was unmoved by this.

Helpless, Yuan Shikai can only buy another piece of feng shui treasure land and bury his mother. From then on, I broke up with the Yuan family in Xiangcheng and never set foot in Xiangcheng again!

(2) Why choose Anyang?

Anyang, formerly known as Zhang De. Anyang is a blessed place, and it is also a blessed place in Yuan Shikai's career.

1, the secluded place of Yi Yin, a famous Shang Dynasty.

According to legend, in Shang Dynasty, Yi Yin, a famous figure, was slandered, so he resigned and lived in seclusion in Huanshang Village of Zhang De. Three years later, the king condescended to Huanshang Village and invited Yi Yin back.

Yuan Shikai thinks Anyang is a blessed land. He bought more than 200 acres of land in Anyang as his second hometown at an early age.

Anyang is Yuan Shikai's blessed land.

1906, Beiyang army held a large-scale military parade (similar to the current military parade), with Yuan Shikai as the military parade minister and the military parade in Anyang. At that time, more than 500 officials and journalists from various countries took part in the military parade in China.

In this military parade, Yuan Shikai's Beiyang Army appeared in more than 40,000 people, which was interpreted as Yuan Shikai showing his strength. Western media even called Yuan Shikai's Beiyang Army the strongest army in the Qing court.

This military parade made Yuan Shikai shine, so Yuan Shikai thought Anyang was his blessed land. Later, after Yuan Shikai was deposed by Regent Zai Feng, he lived in seclusion here.

Therefore, Yuan Shikai did not choose to go back to his hometown Xiangcheng for burial after his death, but was buried in Anyang.
