Last week, a Ford Mondeo was towed back to the factory by the master. The owner turned a blind eye to the lit battery fault light and kept driving to the engine compartment to smoke. At that time, the owner was shocked and opened the hood and found that "smoke" was hot steam emitted after the coolant overflowed into the exhaust pipe. This maintenance case is very classic. When the car is driving normally, the instrument lights up with a red battery light. The master didn't know what it meant, so he called the master to ask. The master said: There may be something wrong with the generator, or there may be something wrong with the generator belt, battery cable and other power supply systems. The generator itself is most likely to go wrong.

So how to solve this? The master first asked the owner to open the hood to see if there was anything abnormal, but the owner said no after inspection. As shown by the arrow in the figure below, the meter shows that the mileage exceeds 170000 km. This picture was taken after the master repaired it. The battery failure light was not taken, and it was in the shape of a red battery.

After the owner checked that there was no problem, he thought that the problem should be very small. After all, the car didn't show any problems, so he decided to wait until there were problems before driving. Unexpectedly, the front of the engine soon smoked, scaring the owner to turn off the engine and open the hood, thinking that the engine spontaneously ignited.

Fortunately, the inspection found that a water pipe at the back of the engine burst, and the high temperature and high pressure coolant sprayed on the exhaust pipe, emitting a lot of steam, which at first glance looked like smoke, which made the owner very alert. As shown in the figure below, this Ford engine ejects coolant at the position indicated by the arrow.

You can't see the specific state of the water outlet pipe bursting in the above picture, but the following picture is very detailed. As shown by the orange arrow, this is the heating pipe of the cooling system, which has completely burst; As shown by the green arrow, this is the exhaust pipe of the engine, which is covered with oil and sprayed with a lot of coolant. ?

After dragging the car back to the factory, the master tried to start the engine when the engine was completely cooled, and found that the car was basically dead. After the test, the master found that the battery was very weak, so he could start the engine with the auxiliary power supply. Then connect a multimeter to the battery for testing, and make sure that the generator does not generate electricity and needs to be removed for inspection.

As shown in the figure below, this is a disassembled generator with a lot of oil pollution. After checking, the master confirmed that there was a problem inside the generator, and directly suggested the owner to replace it with a new one, and the owner agreed.

The next day, new accessories came back, a new generator and two new heating pipes. 1 The following are new generators, and 2 are old generators.

After installing the new generator, the master started the engine again with the help of the auxiliary power supply, connected the positive and negative poles of the battery with a multimeter, and measured the voltage. The result is shown by the arrow in the figure below, indicating that the generator can generate electricity normally.

After the generator is normal, the master will put out the engine because there is only a small amount of coolant in the engine at this time. If it is run for a long time, the engine will get hot. After the engine turned off, the master began to install new water pipes. As shown by the arrows in the figure below, these two pipes are new water pipes and connected to the heating water tank.

After the new water pipe was installed, the master replaced the coolant, and then started the engine until the cooling fan was running and the engine could radiate heat normally, and the problem was solved.

Speaking of which, there must be many car owners who don't understand why the water pipe will burst after the battery light is on, and then the engine won't start.

Let's sort it out: when the battery failure light of the instrument is on, it means that the generator has a failure to generate electricity. At this time, the electrical appliances in the car are powered by the battery, and the battery power is limited. In addition, after the battery light is on, the owner continues to turn on the air conditioner. When the air conditioner is turned on, the engine cooling fan and the air conditioner blower must run, which aggravates the consumption of battery power. The speed of the cooling fan turns slower and slower with the decrease of power, which means that the heat dissipation of the engine is getting worse and worse. After the owner turned off the engine, the battery was not enough to start the starter, which made the engine unable to start again and had to wait for rescue.
