There are several county-level cities in Tibet.

As of July 20 19, there were no county-level cities in Tibet, but only six prefecture-level cities, namely Lhasa, Shigatse, Qamdo, Linzhi, Ali, Shannan and Naqu.

Lhasa, referred to as "La" for short, is the capital of Xizang Autonomous Region, China, an international tourist city with plateau and ethnic characteristics, a political, economic, cultural, scientific and educational center of Tibet, and a holy place of Tibetan Buddhism.

2. Shigatse

Shigatse, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Xizang Autonomous Region, is located in the southwest of People's Republic of China (PRC), southwest of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, bordering Ali area in the west, Naqu city in the north, Lhasa city and Shannan city in the east, and Nepal, Bhutan, India and other countries outside.

3. Qamdo

Qamdo is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of People's Republic of China (PRC) and Xizang Autonomous Region. It is located at the intersection of Hengduan Mountain and Sanjiang (Jinsha River, Lancang River and Nujiang River), in the eastern part of Tibet, and at the throat of the border between Tibet and Sichuan, Qinghai and Yunnan. It is not only the only place where Sichuan-Tibet Highway and Yunnan-Tibet Highway pass, but also the important place of "Tea-Horse Ancient Road".

Linzhi, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Xizang Autonomous Region, was called the Ministry of Industry in ancient times. Linzhi is a transliteration of Nichi or Nian Chi in Tibetan, which means "the throne of the family or the throne of the sun".

5. Shannan

Shannan is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Xizang Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China (PRC). It is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River from Gangdise Mountain to Nyainqentanglha Mountain, bordering Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, Xigaze in the west, Linzhi in the east and India and Bhutan in the south.

6. Naqu

Naqu is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Xizang Autonomous Region. Located in northern Tibet, between Tanggula Mountain, Nyainqentanglha Mountain and Gangdise Mountain, it is about 1 156 kilometers long from east to west and 760 kilometers wide from north to south. It is adjacent to Changdu in the east, Ali in the west, Lhasa and Linzhi in the south, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province in the north.
