Which Zen master did Su Shi befriend?
Wei Jian, a master of Bao Yue, was the abbot of Chengdu Daci Temple and Sheng Xiang Hospital. His common surname is Su, and his word is Meishan. Su Shi and Su Zhe regarded him as the eldest brother of the clan. Perhaps because of the clan, Su Dongpo had the closest and longest contact with Bao Yue master Wei Jian.
After the death of his father Su Xun, Su Shi's brothers donated his father's collection of paintings and calligraphy, as well as Yu Fengxiang's four pictures of bodhisattvas in the Tang Dynasty to Wei Jian for support. But Jane said that she would protect these precious paintings with her life. He said, "My eyes are bright, my feet are charming, and my paintings can't be taken away!" " " .
Jane, on the other hand, painted Su Xun in the pavilion. In the third year of Yuanfeng (1080), after Su Shi was relegated to Huangzhou, Wei Jian sent his disciple Qingwu to visit all the way and asked Su Dongpo to write down the newly-built Sheng Xiang Academy "Dabao".
The Influence of Buddhism on Su Dongpo
Su Shi became Su Dongpo after being demoted to Huangzhou and renamed as "Dongpo Jushi".
"Layman" generally refers to people who believe in Buddhism and practice at home. It can be seen that Buddhism changed Su Shi, made him "deeply understand the reality", reborn from the ashes, and achieved a leap in life.
Su Dongpo's ancestors were charitable and gave relief to the countryside. His parents were "kind and believed in the three treasures". Su Dongpo grew up in such a regional cultural background and family background, and Buddhism had a subtle and positive influence on him.
Su Dongpo likes to make friends with Buddhist monks all his life, and some even become his friends in need and between life and death.
